Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The Trickle-Down Effects of Supervisor Regulatory Foci on Newcomer Task Performance

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences

May I continue or should I stop? the effects of regulatory focus and message framings on video game players’ self-control [PDF]

open access: yes
Two types of motivations exist in terms of regulatory focus: a promotion orientation concerned with advancement and achievement and a prevention orientation concerned with safety and security.

Focus on scar prevention and treatment, promote wound healing

open access: yesDi-san junyi daxue xuebao, 2021
After skin injury, wound healing and scar treatment has become the pain point of patients and the focus of medical workers. We need to clarify the normal procedure of wound healing, give appropriate treatment at different stages and maintain the normal procedure of wound healing, so as to reduce the formation of scar and relieve the pain of patients ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Asymmetric perception of gains vs non-losses and losses vs non-gains: The causal role of regulatory focus [PDF]

open access: yes
Recent studies show that, while losses loom larger than equivalent non-gains, gains loom larger than equivalent non-losses. This finding, at odds with the loss aversion principle, has been interpreted within the framework of regulatory focus theory.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
