Medication-Wide Association Study Plus (MWAS+): A Proof of Concept Study on Drug Repurposing

open access: yesMedical Sciences, 2022
The high cost and time for developing a new drug or repositioning a partially-developed drug has fueled interest in “repurposing” drugs. Drug repurposing is particularly of interest for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or AD-related dementias (ADRD) because ...

Hybrid brain-computer interface and functional electrical stimulation for sensorimotor training in participants with tetraplegia: a proof-of-concept study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background and Purpose: Impaired hand function decreases quality of life in persons with tetraplegia. We tested functional electrical stimulation (FES) controlled by a hybrid brain-computer interface (BCI) for improving hand function in participants with

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Invariant Measures and Decay of Correlations for a Class of Ergodic Probabilistic Cellular Automata

open access: yes, 2009
We give new sufficient ergodicity conditions for two-state probabilistic cellular automata (PCA) of any dimension and any radius. The proof of this result is based on an extended version of the duality concept.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Leveraging recent advances in plasma biomarkers to optimize early proof of concept trials in Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer’s & Dementia: Translational Research & Clinical Interventions
INTRODUCTION The importance of biomarkers as a primary outcome or as supportive evidence of clinical effect is rising as the field shifts toward disease‐modifying treatments and earlier intervention, because they have lower variability and can indicate ...
