Mechanical Proof of the Second Law of Thermodynamics Based on Volume Entropy [PDF]
In a previous work (M. Campisi. Stud. Hist. Phil. M. P. 36 (2005) 275-290) we have addressed the mechanical foundations of equilibrium thermodynamics on the basis of the Generalized Helmholtz Theorem.

Efficient Generation of Program Execution Hash
Distributed computing systems often require verifiable computing techniques in case their node is untrusted. To verify a node’s computation result, proof-of-work (PoW) is often utilized as a basis of verifiable computing method; however, this ...

Parallel Proof-of-Work with Concrete Bounds
Authorization is challenging in distributed systems that cannot rely on the identification of nodes. Proof-of-work offers an alternative gate-keeping mechanism, but its probabilistic nature is incompatible with conventional security definitions. Recent related work establishes concrete bounds for the failure probability of Bitcoin's sequential proof-of-

ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Recent Work on the Proof Paradox [PDF]
Recent years have seen fresh impetus brought to debates about the proper role ofstatistical evidence in the law. This work largely centres on a set of puzzles known asthe ‘proof paradox’. While these puzzles may initially seem academic, they haveimportant ramifications for the law: raising key conceptual questions about legal proof, and practical ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Coalition-proof supply function equilibria in oligopoly [PDF]
In an industry where firms compete via supply functions, the set of equilibrium outcomes is large. If decreasing supply functions are ruled out, this set is reduced significantly, but remains large.
