Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

ER Stress-Mediated Signaling: Action Potential and Ca2+ as Key Players

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2016
The proper functioning of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is crucial for multiple cellular activities and survival. Disturbances in the normal ER functions lead to the accumulation and aggregation of unfolded proteins, which initiates an adaptive response,

Proper actions on cohomology manifolds [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 2002
Essential results about actions of compact Lie groups on connected manifolds are generalized to proper actions of arbitrary groups on connected cohomology manifolds. Slices are replaced by certain fiber bundle structures on orbit neighborhoods. The group dimension is shown to be effectively finite.

FAM83D directs protein kinase CK1α to the mitotic spindle for proper spindle positioning

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2018
The concerted action of many protein kinases helps orchestrate the error-free progression through mitosis of mammalian cells. The roles and regulation of some prominent mitotic kinases, such as cyclin-dependent kinases, are well-established.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Fuzzy Tuner for a Satellite Large Angle Maneuvering Control [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2005
: This paper presents an Expert controller for a three axes large angle satellite reorientation maneuvers . The controller is a conventional PD controller with a fuzzy auto tuner that uses the quaternion and angular velocities error on each axis to make ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Addressing influenza’s underestimated burden – Iberian experts call to action

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2023
Having a proper understanding of the impact of influenza is a fundamental step towards improved preventive action. This paper reviews findings from the Burden of Acute Respiratory Infections study on the burden of influenza in Iberia, and its potential ...

Naturality of Rieffel’s Morita Equivalence for Proper Actions [PDF]

open access: yesAlgebras and Representation Theory, 2009
Suppose that a locally compact group $G$ acts freely and properly on the right of a locally compact space $T$. Rieffel proved that if $α$ is an action of $G$ on a $C^*$-algebra $A$ and there is an equivariant embedding of $C_0(T)$ in $M(A)$, then the action $α$ of $G$ on $A$ is proper, and the crossed product $A\rtimes_{α,r}G$ is Morita equivalent to a
