Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Particle size distribution of Japanese cedar chip converted from boards using a disc chipper and its relationships with disc rotation speed and board feed speed

open access: yesJournal of Wood Science
The effects of disc chipper rotation speed and raw material feed speed on the particle size distribution of wood chips produced were investigated to develop an efficient technique for producing ideal sized chips for the stable operation of combined heat ...

Simple evaluation of the degradation state of cultural heritage based on multi-view stereo

open access: yesProgress in Earth and Planetary Science, 2019
In this study, degradation of cultural heritage is discussed based on the comparison between the present shape of the Wareishi Rock Cliff Sculpture and its replica made 30 years ago through simple three-dimensional measurement using a multi-view stereo ...

Elastic Properties of Lipid Bilayers: Theory and Possible Experiments

open access: yesZeitschrift fur Naturforschung. Teil C: Biochemie, Biophysik, Biologie, Virologie, 1973
A theory of the elasticity of lipid bilayers is proposed. Three types of strain, i. e. stretching, tilt and curvature, are distinguished and the associated stresses are identified.

Psychological Safety Among Interprofessional Pediatric Oncology Teams in Germany: A Nationwide Survey

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Psychological safety (PS) is essential for teamwork, communication, and patient safety in complex healthcare environments. In pediatric oncology, interprofessional collaboration occurs under high emotional and organizational demands. Low PS may increase stress, burnout, and adverse events.

DELP Treatment on Vision and Retinal Microcirculation in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke: Report of Five Cases and Literature Review

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The delipid extracorporeal lipoprotein filter from plasma (DELP) treatment can effectively reduce blood lipid, increase blood flow, and improve neurological deficits in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, its effect on vision and retinal microcirculation in stroke patients has never been reported.

Property as Intangible Property

open access: yes, 2020
Abstract Historically, property theory has focused on real property as the premier example of property, reflecting the longstanding importance of land as a source of wealth and political power. This essay argues that it is time for property theorists to pay more attention to intangible property. It makes three main points.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

In situ atomic-scale observation of grain size and twin thickness effect limit in twin-structural nanocrystalline platinum

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
The deformation mechanisms of micron-sized twinned metals are well-understood, but it is not so for twinned nanocrystalline metals. Here, the authors use high resolution microscopy to image the deformation of nanocrystalline twinned platinum and show ...
