Dietary fat and salivary prostaglandin E2
Prostaglandins & Other Lipid Mediators, 2002A study of the relation between dietary fat intake and salivary prostaglandin E2 was undertaken in Transkei, South Africa. Samples of saliva were obtained from (1) Transkeians on a very low fat diet, (2) Transkeians on a low fat diet, (3) Transkeians on a medium fat diet, (4) British patients. Salivary PGE2 means for the groups were (1) 2357 pg/ml, (2)

Prostaglandin E2 is the most common and biologically potent of the primary prostaglandins. It induces contraction of uterine smooth muscle at all stages of pregnancy and is used principally to induce labour or as an abortifacient. It has vasodilator and bronch-odilator properties. It can be given by vaginal, oral and parenteral routes.

A maternal death associated with prostaglandin E2
Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1979A maternal death following prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) administration is reported. It is suggested that prostaglandin may not be safer than other methods of uterine evacuation for late abortion and fetal death.
