Surgical management of enlarged prostatic utricle
Pediatric Surgery International, 2000The prostatic utricle (PU), or prostatic pouch, is a rudimentary structure present in the male prostatic urethra, and is derived from both the müllerian and wolffian ducts. As the PU is of mixed origin, a patient with an enlarged utricle should be carefully examined to ascertain whether it is associated with female internal organs.

A prostatic utricle is a congenital outpouching of the prostatic urethra. Signs, symptoms, and indications for surgical intervention include hematuria, pseudo-incontinence from urine trapping within the utricle, lower urinary tract symptoms, recurrent urinary tract infections, and stone formation within the pouch.

Prostatic Utricle Cysts (Müllerian Duct Cysts)
A series of 88 male patients with prostatic utricle cysts (müllerian duct) has been compiled by adding our 3 patients to 85 cases reported. Irritative lower urinary tract symptoms were the most common presenting complaint (42 per cent), while lower obstructive symptoms were noted in 29 per cent.

Classification of Enlarged Prostatic Utricle in Patients with Hypospadias
Summary— An enlarged prostatic utricle is often associated with hypospadias. To evaluate the relationship between the incidence of prostatic utricle and the degree of hypospadias, we performed retrograde urethrography and/or micturating cystourethrography on 280 patients with hypospadias. Prostatic utricles were

Cystoscopic Management of Prostatic Utricles
Urology, 2021In this case series (n = 7) on prostatic utricles (PU), retention of urine was seen in 5 of 7, urinary tract infection (4 of 7), recurrent epidydymo-orchitis (3 of 7), and scrotal sinus (1 of 7). Voiding cystourethrogram established diagnosis in 3 of 7 patients while CT/MRI in 4 of 7 patients.

Enlarged Prostatic Utricle Associated to Hypospadias
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results. Winston Churchill This message cautions that one should not be so infatuated with the beauty of one’s design such that one fails to evaluate the outcomes.

The Prostatic Utricle in the Fetus and Infant
Urologia Internationalis, 2010The prostatic utricle (uterus masculinus) has been examined in 194 fetuses and infants, and its appearance before and after birth has been described. The utricle was markedly enlarged in 16 cases and caused extreme bulging of the colliculus seminalis in 5 cases.
