Design and development of an underactuated prosthetic hand

Proceedings 2002 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.02CH37292), 2003
Current prosthetic hands are basically simple grippers with one or two degrees of freedom, which barely restore the capability of the thumb-index pinch. Although most amputees consider this performance as acceptable for usual tasks, there is ample room for improvement by exploiting recent progresses in mechatronic design and technology.

SEAMLESS PROSTHETIC HANDS: A TECHNIC OF FABRICATION

Archives of Surgery, 1947
I. THE MAKING OF THE MOLD THE MAKING of naturalistic, seamless, prosthetic hands of plastic materials such as rubber latex and Plastisol has presented numerous difficulties. We have not been able to find any evidence of plastic materials such as gelatin being employed for prosthetic hand making.

Creative mechanism design for a prosthetic hand

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine, 2004
In this paper, an auxiliary methodology called the creative mechanism design is introduced into the innovation of gripping devices for prosthetic hands. This methodology is a systematic approach based on modification of existing devices for the generation of all possible topological structures of mechanisms and mechanical devices.

NEW ADVANCES IN SEAMLESS PROSTHETIC HANDS

Archives of Surgery, 1949
IN A PREVIOUS article, "Seamless Prosthetic Hands: A Technic of Fabrication." 1 methods of producing prosthetic rubber and plastic hands in rubber molds were explained in detail. Since the appearance of this article, numerous advances have been made. They are primarily new methods of producing molds and improved plastics and a technic of making partial

Design and Development of a Multifingered Prosthetic Hand

International Journal of Social Robotics, 2011
This paper focuses on the development of a robotic hand having fourteen degree-of-freedom (DOF) to trigger finger movement. The design combination and integration of fingers will produce a prosthetic hand which is approximately the size of a human hand.

Anthropomorphic EMG-Driven Prosthetic Hand

2019
Hazards in industry, wars and serious medical reasons determined the increase of the number of amputations and, thus, the need for designing prosthetics that replace the missing segment by imitating its natural movements. Research in prosthetics domain became, consequently, a primary activity both for engineers and physicians.

A physiological basis for control of a prosthetic hand

Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, 2013
Abstract Recent surveys from upper limb amputees indicate the sentiment that prosthetic hands do not function in a life-like manner and are not intuitively controlled. Thus, two methods of control for a prosthetic hand are presented. A proportional derivative (PD) force controller is compared to a novel biomimetic application of sliding mode control.
