Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Advanced Models of Personal Protective Equipment for Ground Forces Against Chemical and Biological Weapons Effects

open access: yesВестник войск РХБ защиты, 2020
Modern personal protective equipment for military personnel against the damaging factors of chemical and biological weapons (CBW) does not always allow to achieve an acceptable combination of body armor, protective helmet, respiratory and skin protective

Glutamine supplementation attenuates bisphenol a-induced testicular toxicity in rats

open access: yesJournal of Human Reproductive Sciences, 2022
Background: The induction of testicular toxicity by bisphenol A (BPA) may involve oxidative stress. Glutamine (Gln) is a rate limiter for the synthesis of glutathione (GSH), which inhibits oxidative stress.

Eyewear protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Sports-related eye injuries increased more than 100% in the last three years. More significant is the fact thai nearly 90% could have been prevented had the athletes been wearing protective eyewear. A key to getting athletes to wear proper and protective

Investor Protection and the Value Effects of Bank Merger Announcements in Europe and the US [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Investor protection regimes have been shown to partly explain why the same type of corporate event may attract different investor reactions across countries. We compare the value effects of large bank merger announcements in Europe and the US and find an

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Identifying correlates of protection from Yersinia pestis on a mouse model and assessing an opportunity for their use as markers of human vaccination efficiency

open access: yesИнфекция и иммунитет, 2022
In case no assessment of changes in incidence rate can be used as an indicator for effectiveness of applied live plague vaccine, it is really necessary to search for other, particularly immunological correlates for vaccine-based protection.

Pulmonary protection

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2010
This report describes the case of a 23-year-old woman who presented with symptoms, signs and radiology suggesting pneumonia. Despite courses of antibiotics, her condition did not improve. Bronchoscopy was eventually performed which revealed a membranous object in her right upper lobe bronchus. The object was easily removed and discovered to be a condom.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
