Protein tyrosine kinases form a large family of signaling proteins implicated in both normal and malignant cell signaling. The aim of this study was to identify protein tyro-sine kinases that can transform hematopoietic cells to growth factor independent

Comparing Theories for the Maintenance of Late LTP and Long-Term Memory: Computational Analysis of the Roles of Kinase Feedback Pathways and Synaptic Reactivation [PDF]
How can memories be maintained from days to a lifetime, given turnover of proteins that underlie expression of long-term synaptic potentiation (LTP)? One likely solution relies on synaptic positive feedback loops, prominently including persistent activation of CaM kinase II (CaMKII) and self-activated synthesis of protein kinase M zeta (PKM).

Fertilization results in the activation of protein tyrosine kinases within minutes of sperm-egg binding, although the role of the kinase(s) involved is not clear. In the present study, we have treated sea urchin eggs with genistein, as well as other protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and have characterized the subsequent effect on fertilization and ...

Ubiquitination of transcription factors in cancer: unveiling therapeutic potential
In cancer, dysregulated ubiquitination of transcription factors contributes to the uncontrolled growth and survival characteristics of tumors. Tumor suppressors are degraded by aberrant ubiquitination, or oncogenic transcription factors gain stability through ubiquitination, thereby promoting tumorigenesis.

PTP4A1 promotes TGFβ signaling and fibrosis in systemic sclerosis
Although protein tyrosine kinases are being explored as antifibrotic agents for the treatment of systemic sclerosis, little is known about the function of counteractive protein tyrosine phosphatases in this context.

Differential Display of Protein Tyrosine Kinase cDNAs from Human Fetal and Adult Brains
Here we describe a differential display method for surveying the expression of most protein tyrosine kinases and applying it to cDNAs from human fetal and adult brains. The method involves two selective steps for processing the mRNA.

A Novel Bis-Coumarin Targets Multiple Tyrosine Kinases of Key Signaling Pathways in Melanoma and Inhibits Melanoma Cell Survival, Proliferation, and Migration [PDF]
Melanoma is one of the most dangerous skin malignancies due to its high metastatic tendency and high mortality. Activation of key signaling pathways enforcing melanoma progression depends on phosphorylation of tyrosine kinases, and oxidative stress. We here investigated the effect of the new bis-coumarin derivative (3,5-DCPBC) on human melanoma cell ...

Accuracy of position determination in Ca$^{2+}$ signaling [PDF]
A living cell senses its environment and responds to external signals. In this work, we study theoretically, the precision at which cells can determine the position of a spatially localized transient extracellular signal. To this end, we focus on the case, where the stimulus is converted into the release of a small molecule that acts as a second ...

This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Alternative Splicing in Oncogenic Kinases: From Physiological Functions to Cancer
Among the 518 protein kinases encoded by the human kinome, several of them act as oncoproteins in human cancers. Like other eukaryotic genes, oncogenes encoding protein kinases are frequently subjected to alternative splicing in coding as well as ...
