Microbial Sources of Protein

1970
Publisher Summary Two circumstances have combined to lend urgency to the subject of microbial sources of protein. The first of these is the continued failure of our ability to provide sufficient food, particularly protein, for the world's growing population.

Neuroscience: Local protein sources drive memory

Current Biology, 2022
The complicated arbors of neuronal dendrites and axons host synapses, the sites of information transfer and storage. A new paper describes how an important synaptic molecule, Calcium-calmodulin protein kinase 2, gets concentrated at synapses and how its local synthesis is important for memory in the fruit fly.

Unconventional protein sources: apricot seed kernels

Zeitschrift für Ernährungswissenschaft, 1981
Hamawy apricot seed kernels (sweet), Amar apricot seed kernels (bitter) and treated Amar apricot kernels (bitterness removed) were evaluated biochemically. All kernels were found to be high in fat (42.2--50.91%), protein (23.74--25.70%) and fiber (15.08--18.02%). Phosphorus, calcium, and iron were determined in all experimental samples.

Different Protein Sources in Piglet Feeding

Veterinary Research Communications, 2003
Weaning is a critical phase characterized by social stress (establishment of a new hierarchy), environmental stress (removal of and from the sow) and nutritional stress for the piglet. From a nutritional standpoint, weaning corresponds to a change from a liquid to a dry form of feed; in addition to this, post-weaning formulations commonly contain ...

New protein Sources: Novel Foods

2019
This paper surveys the interrelations between environmental sustainability, future possible shortage of food resources, food quality and the assessment of emerging protein sources to feed the world. Nowadays, a significant portion of the developing countries still suffers from an insufficient access to nutritious and safe food, but this problem might ...

Sustainable Protein Sources: Insects, Algae and Yeast

As the global population continues to grow and environmental issues become more important, the need to find more sustainable food sources to provide for the nutritional needs of humans is critical. In terms of proteins, current diets are being replaced by healthier and more environmentally friendly non-conventional sources.

Potential Sources of Protein

1985
The world’s population currently derives about 70% of its protein from plant sources. It is unlikely that the proportion of protein from animal sources will increase in the foreseeable future, in view of the increased pressure on the land for total food production.

Preparation of proteins from new sources

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1979
Eight potential new sources of vegetable proteins were described in short presentations; texts of 11 are reproduced in these Proceedings. Discussion of Hagenmaeier's paper on Experimental Coconut Protein Products pertained to his statement about the added cost involved in producing defatted flour from this source.

Alternative Protein Sources

The topics covered in our book include the relationship of wheat, which meets 21% of human protein needs, with environmental and abiotic factors; protein and quality characteristics in some annual plants belonging to different families; protein in corn and sorghum; grasshoppers as an alternative protein source; the unveiling of the potential in ...
