Milk Proteins and Human Health

open access: yes, 2014
Cow’s milk proteins and related bioactive peptides are purported to have a wide range of effects on human health across the life span. Casein and whey protein have both been proposed to play a role in the prevention of chronic age-related conditions such

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Drosophila as a Model for Studying the Roles of Lamins in Normal Tissues and Laminopathies

open access: yesCells
Nuclear processes are fundamental to the regulation of cellular, tissue, and organismal function, especially in complex multicellular systems. Central to these processes are lamins and lamin-associated proteins, which contribute to nuclear structure ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Template assembled synthetic proteins

open access: yes
A symposium report. A new concept for the construction of artificial proteins with a non-natural chain assembly (template assembled synthetic proteins) is exemplified for 2 prototypes of this new generation of macromols.

Milk proteins and human health

open access: yes, 2019
Cow's milk proteins and related bioactive peptides may have significant effects on human health across the life span. Both casein and whey protein are proposed to play a role in prevention of chronic age-related conditions including adverse metabolic ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Rheological Characteristics and Microstructure of Probiotic Soy Yogurt Prepared from Germinated Soybeans

open access: yesFood Technology and Biotechnology, 2012
Soy yogurts (sogurts) were prepared from germinated soybeans [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] with different hypocotyl lengths. This study is mainly focused on the effects of soybean germination on the rheological characteristics and the microstructure of ...
