Cystatin C as Biomarker for the Evaluation of Renal Outcome in AL Amyloidosis

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cystatin C (CysC) has emerged as a novel and potentially more reliable biomarker for the estimation of glomerular filtration in the general population in patients with various conditions. In AL amyloidosis, the current renal staging system and renal response criteria are based on proteinuria and creatinine‐based eGFR.

Changes in proteinuria and the risk of myocardial infarction in people with diabetes or pre-diabetes: a prospective cohort study

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2017
Background The relationship between changes in proteinuria and myocardial infarction (MI) remains unclear in people with diabetes or pre-diabetes. We aimed to evaluate the predictive value and independent role of changes in proteinuria over a 2-year ...

Aberrant glycosylation of IgG in children with active lupus nephritis alters podocyte metabolism and causes podocyte injury

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Background Podocytes are integral to the maintenance of the glomerular filtration barrier. Their injury results in proteinuria and disease progression in lupus nephritis (LN). Aberrant IgG glycosylation drives podocyte injury in LN and leads to cytoskeletal rearrangement, motility changes and decreased nephrin production.

Risk Factors Triggering the Development of Preeclampsia in Pregnant Women with Isolated Gestational Proteinuria and Perinatal Outcomes

open access: yesHaseki Tıp Bülteni, 2019
Aim:To determine the risk factors for preeclampsia in isolated gestational proteinuria and to compare perinatal outcomes between women who did and did not develop preeclampsia.Methods:Seventy-six pregnants, who were diagnosed with isolated proteinuria ...

Association between proteinuria trajectories and outcomes in critically ill patients with sepsis or shock.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
BackgroundProteinuria results from kidney damage and can be a predictor of illness severity and mortality in the intensive care unit (ICU). However, the optimal timing of proteinuria measurements and the reference values remain undetermined.

Effect of long‐term voclosporin treatment on renal histology in patients with active lupus nephritis with repeat renal biopsies

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objective This study characterized the impact of voclosporin on kidney histology in patients with lupus nephritis (LN) who had protocolized repeat kidney biopsies in the AURORA clinical trials. Methods Patients were randomized to voclosporin or placebo treatment for up to three years; all patients received mycophenolate mofetil and low‐dose ...

Differences in dynamics of specific anti‐nuclear antibodies and their susceptibility to B cell targeting treatment in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objective The presence of anti‐nuclear antibodies (ANAs) is characteristic for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Antibody dynamics over time are thought to reflect the cellular source of ANAs and their therapeutic targetability. Anti‐dsDNA is the most prevalent and well‐studied of all ANAs, and fluctuations in anti‐dsDNA serum levels are associated ...

Evaluation of Proteinuria [PDF]

open access: yesMayo Clinic Proceedings, 1994
Proteinuria, a common finding on urinalysis, may indicate the presence of a wide variety of medical conditions, some of which are benign and associated with a favorable prognosis (such as orthostatic proteinuria) and others of which have more serious implications (such as glomerular disease or multiple myeloma).

Dysproteinemia, proteinuria, and glomerulonephritis [PDF]

open access: yesKidney International, 2006
CASE PRESENTATION A 57-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of new-onset hypertension and proteinuria. The patient had developed lower extremity edema 3 months prior and had been treated with diuretics. Past medical history was significant for microscopic hematuria of many years’ duration thought secondary to nephrolithiasis, longstanding ...
