Proteolytic activity of largomycin

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1985
Largomycin, an antibiotic and antitumor protein, purified from the culture broth of Streptomyces pluricolorescens, displayed specific proteolytic activity. Pure largomycin did not degrade a number of substrates commonly used for detection of aminopeptidase, endopeptidase and carboxypeptidase activity. Pure largomycin degraded angiotensin II, bradykinin,

THE PROTEOLYTIC ACTIVITY OF INSULIN

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1967
The action of insulin on hemoglobin at pH 7.5 was studied. Four different methods were used to determine the degree of proteolysis. After mixtures of hemoglobin and insulin were incubated for 2 hours, very little amino acid or peptide material was liberated from the proteins.

Proteolytic activities in yeast

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology, 1975
Studies on the mechanism and time course of the activation of proteinases A (EC 3.4.23.8), B (EC 3.4.22.9) and C (EC 3.4.12.--) in crude yeast extracts at pH 5.1 and 25 degrees C showed that the increase in proteinase B activity is paralleled with the disappearance of proteinase B inhibitor.

Proteolytic and Non-Proteolytic Activation of Prorenin

1998
Largely because of its importance in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases, renin has been intensely studied as a target for drug inhibition. Like most other aspartyl proteases, mammalian renins are synthesized in vivo as inactive precursors called prorenins. Although the crystal structure of prorenin has not yet been reported, it seems likely

The Proteolytic Activity in Brain

Archives Internationales de Physiologie et de Biochimie, 1966
AbstractThe acid proteinase activity in human and steer brain areas has been determined. Grey matter contains more acid proteinase activity than white matter. A major portion of the activity resides in the soluble fraction of the cell. The Mn++-stimulated aminopeptidase activity and dipeptidase activity in human astrocytoma tissue homogenates are ...

Proteolytic Activity Assays in Haloarchaea

2022
Extreme halophilic archaea (haloarchaea) have adapted their physiology and biomolecules to thrive in saline environments (>2 M NaCl). Many haloarchaea produce extracellular hydrolases (including proteases) with potential biotechnological applications, which require unusual high salt concentrations to attain their function and maintain their stability ...

Proteolytic Activity in CSF

1978
Proteolytic enzyme activity, present at both acid and neutral pH values, in cerebrospinal fluid, can be measured by a sensitive assay, which monitors the rate of 125I-basic protein breakdown on polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. CSF cellular neutral proteinase and supernatant acid proteinase are increased in acute multiple sclerosis and in CNS ...

Regulation of deubiquitinase proteolytic activity

Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 2013
Deubiquitinases (DUBs) are proteolytic enzymes whose function is to oppose the process of the conjugation of ubiquitin to a specific substrate. This task is accomplished through an enzymatic cascade involving E1, E2, and E3 enzymes, which collectively produce a product that is either monoubiquitinated, or polyubiquitinated with multiple single ...

A microassay for proteolytic activity

Analytical Biochemistry, 1991
A quantitative procedure for measuring proteolytic activity, utilizing azoalbumin as substrate, has been developed for use in microtiter plates. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay reader is used to measure absorbance. The procedure is sensitive, as well as being both rapid and economical.
