COVID-19 diagnosis by routine blood tests using machine learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Physicians taking care of patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have described different changes in routine blood parameters. However, these changes, hinder them from performing COVID-19 diagnosis. We constructed a machine learning predictive model for COVID-19 diagnosis.

Clinical evaluation of whole blood prothrombin time (PT) and international normalized ratio (INR) using a Laser Speckle Rheology sensor

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Prothrombin time (PT) and the associated international normalized ratio (INR) are routinely tested to assess the risk of bleeding or thrombosis and to monitor response to anticoagulant therapy in patients.

Effect on haemostasis of different replacement fluids during therapeutic plasma exchange—A comparative multicentre observational study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Apheresis, Volume 37, Issue 6, Page 534-543, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Introduction Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is used for several chronic conditions with little evidence on the efficacy and safety of different choice of replacement fluid. Measurement of haemostasis, particularly in vitro thrombin generation, could play a role in determining the immediate efficacy of different fluid replacement.

The safety and performance of the Spectra Optia apheresis system platelet depletion protocol in patients with elevated platelet counts

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Apheresis, Volume 37, Issue 6, Page 544-552, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Background Thrombocytosis is a presenting and progressive clinical feature found in multiple disease states. It is characterized by high platelet (PLT) counts (>450 × 109/L) and can lead to thrombohemorrhagic events. Thrombocytapheresis or platelet depletion (PLTD) can be performed in acutely symptomatic patients suffering from thrombocytosis ...

Landmarking 2.0: Bridging the gap between joint models and landmarking [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The problem of dynamic prediction with time-dependent covariates, given by biomarkers, repeatedly measured over time, has received much attention over the last decades. Two contrasting approaches have become in widespread use. The first is joint modelling, which attempts to jointly model the longitudinal markers and the event time.

Prothrombin time is predictive of low plasma prothrombin concentration and clinical outcome in patients with trauma hemorrhage: analyses of prospective observational cohort studies

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine, 2017
BackgroundFibrinogen and prothrombin have been suggested to become rate limiting in trauma associated coagulopathy. Administration of fibrinogen is now recommended, however, the importance of prothrombin to patient outcome is unknown.MethodsWe have ...

Study of Basic Coagulation Parameters among HIV Patients in Correlation to CD4 Counts and Art Status [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2016
Introduction: HIV infection is known to cause coagulation abnormalities by various mechanism, especially during its late course. Aim: The objective of this study is to analyse platelet count, prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time

Different clinical and genetic features of Alagille patients with progressive disease versus a jaundice‐free course

open access: yesJGH Open, Volume 6, Issue 12, Page 839-845, December 2022., 2022
This study highlighted the different disease courses of Alagille syndrome patients with progressive disease (PD) or the jaundice‐free (JF) courses based on clinical follow‐up. Patients in the JF group had a favorable outcome and longer native liver survival than the PD group.

MD simulations and experiments of plasma proteins adsorption to the biodegradable magnesium alloys to facilitate cell response [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Once the magnesium alloy was implanted in the body, it was immediately covered with plasma proteins. The coated alloy surface promoted the adsorption and growth of osteoblasts. Herein, in vitro biological reactions of the ZK60 and AZ31 magnesium alloys were analyzed with and without plasma proteins incubation.

Treatment outcomes and costs of a simplified antiretroviral treatment strategy for hepatitis C among Hepatitis C Virus and Human Immuno deficiency Virus co‐infected patients in Ukraine

open access: yesJGH Open, Volume 6, Issue 12, Page 894-903, December 2022., 2022
We assessed treatment and cost outcomes for integrated HIV and viral hepatitis testing with ledipasvir/sofosbuvir ± weight‐based ribavirin for 12 weeks in Kyiv, Ukraine. Overall, a sustained virological response (SVR) was achieved in 831 of 868 patients (95.7%).
