A Physical Organic Odyssey: From the Ultrafast Dynamics of Carbenes and Nitrenes to Contemporary Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery

open access: yesJournal of Physical Organic Chemistry, Volume 39, Issue 9, September 2026.
Physical organic chemistry transforms photoaffinity labeling from empirical photochemistry into rational probe design. By measuring reactive‐intermediate lifetimes, pathways, and selectivity, Platz's legacy connects carbene and nitrene mechanisms to modern chemoproteomics, enabling more precise protein labeling and drug‐discovery maps.

New Biobased Polyester Polyols With Tunable Tg Values From 4‐Vinylguaiacol‐Derived Monomers

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 15, 14 August 2026.
Biobased low‐molecular‐weight polyesters were obtained by ROCOP of guaiacol‐derived epoxides with cyclic anhydrides. Varying the length of the acyl moieties on the epoxides and the cyclic anhydride structures, it is possible to tune the Tg's within an 80 ºC wide temperature range.

Synthesis of Ethyl Methyl Carbonate: Past, Present, and Future

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 15, 1 August 2026.
Ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC) is the simplest asymmetric organic carbonate, with properties between dimethyl (DMC) and diethyl (DEC) carbonate, considered a unique green liquid organic compound for lithium batteries (electrolyte) and gasoline blending (octane enhancer additive), among other uses. In accordance, the chemical production of EMC is expected

Synergistic Mechanism Between Ir–Phosphinito Catalyst and HFIP Enables Asymmetric Hydrogenation of Ketones Under Acidic Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 15, 1 August 2026.
A cooperative mechanism between a phosphinito Ir complex and HFIP provides a low‐energy pathway for hydrogen activation. This allowed the development of a highly efficient catalytic system for the hydrogenation of ketones that operates under acidic conditions, enabling the reduction of substrates containing phenols and carboxylic acids with no added ...

A Comparative Study of the Influence of Water and Temperature on the Racemization of Five‐ and Six‐Membered l‐Alanine‐Derived Imides

open access: yesChirality, Volume 38, Issue 8, August 2026.
Racemization of chiral imides in dimethylformamide is shown to increase with increasing water content and temperature. The six‐membered imide ring system is more stable than the five‐membered analogue, with slower racemization under identical conditions and an absence of competing side reactions.

Evaluation of Proto‐ and Metallofluorochromism Effects in Enamine Switches

open access: yesChemPhotoChem, Volume 10, Issue 8, August 2026.
Tailored enaminitrile molecular switches exhibit selective proto‐ and metallofluorochromic properties. Distinct absorptive/emissive patterns were found in response to transition metal ions or protons, and selective metallofluorochromism could be recorded for CuII and ZnII.
