Stability of Medicinal Nanoemulsions to Spaceflight: Insights From the StarMed Experiment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Chitosan‐coated melatonin nanoemulsions (MN) recovered from a sounding rocket mission preserve droplet size and controlled‐release behavior, whereas uncoated nanoemulsions show ageing‐driven droplet growth and increased accessible drug fraction. Simple polymer coatings thus enhance the flight resilience of liquid space medicines under cumulative launch

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

NO tablet: autonomous generation of therapeutic nitric oxide in air through redox-promoted CO2 adsorption

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials
Inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) is a powerful therapy for the treatment of various cardiopulmonary and respiratory diseases. However, access to iNO therapy is often limited by the necessity of cumbersome gas tanks and/or elaborate gas blending apparatus. Here,

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.

Azobenzene's Cross‐Scale Optics and Photonics: Molecular Photoswitching, Mesoscopic Material Motions, and Adaptive Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Azobenzene photoswitches translate molecular‐scale E/Z photoisomerization into macroscopic material responses and device‐level photonic functions. This Review highlights how azobenzene research has evolved from molecular photochemistry to photoalignment, mass migration, photomechanics, and heat release, ultimately enabling holography, reconfigurable ...

Potentiometeric Study of New Schiff Base Complexes Bearing Morpholine in Ethanol-water Medium with some Metal Ions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2019
Acid dissociation constants of 2-[(4-morpholinobenzylidene)amino]phenol (HL) and the equilibrium constants of their metal complexes with Cu2+, Zn2+, Sr2+, Cd2+, Ba2+ and Hg2+ ions were investigated using a pH metric titration technique in 40 % (v/v ...

Clustomesogen Showing Sub‐Zero Liquid Crystal Properties: Supramolecular Assembly Between Cs2[Mo6Ii8(OCOC2F5)6] and Hexaethylenoxide Containing Mesogenic Dimers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral hexanuclear molybdenum cluster compound with hexaethyleneoxide chains bearing mesogenic units on both ends leads to an emissive hybrid liquid crystal showing mesomorphism on a very unusual temperature range down to −25°C.

Proton-induced pre-equilibrium composite-particle emission [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
The reaction mechanism of proton-induced composite particle pre-equilibrium emission as an intrinsic part a statistical multistep process was confirmed long ago. Nevertheless, until fairly recently it was still not clear how pickup and knockout processes compete in the multistep sequence to produce a composite ejectiles.
