STRUCTURE OF INITIAL PROTOPLANETS

International Journal of Modern Physics A, 2008
The structure of a protoplanet has been determined by numerical method in which the protoplanet is assumed to be a gaseous sphere of solar composition having Jovian mass, which is in a steady state of quasistatic equilibrium. It is also assumed that the only source of energy in a protoplanet is gravitational.

The Stability of Protoplanet Systems

Icarus, 1999
Abstract We investigated the stability of 10 protoplanet systems using three-dimensional N-body simulations. We found that the time scale of instability T depends strongly on the initial random velocities v (eccentricities e and inclinations i) and orbital separations Δa. For zero initial random velocities, we confirmed the result of Chambers et al. (

Protoplanets and Exoplanets

2012
The previous chapter touched on the early evolution of the Sun, the protoplanetary nebula, and the formation of planetesimals. This chapter presents an update on the detection of exoplanets, quickly summarizes planet detection techniques, gives an account of planet detection in PMS stellar systems, and introduce some issues related to the formation and

Growth rate of a migrating protoplanet

Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, Part C: Solar, Terrestrial & Planetary Science, 1999
Abstract We investigated the collision rate (i.e., the growth rate) of a migrating protoplanet with planetesimals. The collision rate strongly depends on the orbital elements of planetesimals (e.g., their eccentricities and inclinations). Thus we calculated the orbital evolutions of 2000 planetesimals in the vicinity of the migrating protoplanet and ...

Radiative Transfer in the Vicinity of a Protoplanet

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2004
We calculate the effect of stellar irradiation on the temperature structure of the photosphere of a circumstellar disk in the vicinity of a protoplanet. We restrict our study to small protoplanets that perturb the disk locally but are too small to open a gap. These protoplanets induce a compression of the disk material near it, resulting in a decrement

Direct Imaging of Protoplanets

Many exoplanets have been detected around other stars, but little is understood about their formation. In this thesis, I use direct imaging to observe protoplanetary discs in an attempt to discover forming planets. Through careful data processing and selection of discs, we discover the third ever directly imaged protoplanet.
