Identification of a Benzenesulfonylpiperazine Derivative With In Vivo Efficacy Against Visceral Leishmaniasis

open access: yesChemical Biology &Drug Design, Volume 108, Issue 2, August 2026.
This work highlights the satisfactory pharmacokinetic profile of two benzenesulfonylpiperazine lead candidates, followed by in vivo assessment in a murine model of visceral leishmaniasis. This assessment identified compound 2 as moderately active at a lower dose, but its efficacy increased at higher doses, though with concerns regarding safety.

Toxoplasma gondii‐Derived Soluble Factors Induce G2/M Phase Accumulation and p53‐Associated Mitochondrial Apoptosis in Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 16, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Toxoplasma gondii infection poses potential risks to stem cell‐based therapeutic applications; however, the effects of parasite‐derived soluble factors on mesenchymal stem cells remain unclear. Here, we investigated the impact of T. gondii‐derived soluble factors (Tg‐SFs) on human umbilical cord‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC‐MSCs).

Vectors and Vector‐Borne Diseases: Biology, Epidemiology and Integrated Control Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 150, Issue 7, Page 990-1015, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Vector‐Borne Diseases (VBDs), transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and sandflies, represent a significant threat to global health. These diseases can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and helminths.

Occurrence of Antibodies Anti‐Toxoplasma gondii in Captive Non‐Human Primates From Pernambuco State, Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Medical Primatology, Volume 55, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Wildlife captive populations are important tools for threatened species conservation, and early identification of diseases must be prioritized. In this study, we test for the presence of anti‐Toxoplasma gondii antibodies in non‐human primates at a Zoo from Pernambuco State, Brazil.

Attenuation of Tau Hyperphosphorylation by Chronic Toxoplasma gondii Infection in a Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesParasite Immunology, Volume 48, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by amyloid‐β (Aβ) peptide accumulation and tau protein‐mediated neurodegeneration, and neuroinflammation is increasingly recognized as a major process associated with tau pathology. Chronic Toxoplasma gondii infection reduces amyloid accumulation in AD models through immune modulation, but its stage ...
