Protozoan growth rates on secondary-metabolite-producing Pseudomonas spp. correlate with high-level protozoan taxonomy

open access: yes, 2011
Different features can protect bacteria against protozoan grazing, for example large size, rapid movement, and production of secondary metabolites. Most papers dealing with these matters focus on bacteria. Here, we describe protozoan features that affect

Anaemia Among Mother–Child Dyads in India: Trends, Drivers, and Future Projections

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Anaemia among mothers and their children is a widespread public health challenge with profound consequences for individuals and societies. While anaemia has been studied separately in women and children, there remains a literature gap examining anaemia in mother‐child dyads, limiting insights on interventions that may simultaneously address ...

High prevalence of a host‐associated Anaplasma lineage in wild coatis (Nasua nasua) from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Anaplasma sp. DNA was detected in 47.9% of free‐ranging coatis (Nasua nasua) sampled in Iguaçu National Park, southern Brazil. Molecular analyses revealed a genetically distinct Anaplasma lineage infecting coatis, differing from Anaplasma strains detected in associated tick populations.

Biotechnology In The Study Of Protozoan Parasites [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Over the past decade extraordinary advances have been made in the study of protozoan parasites. Particular progress has occurred in areas such as cultivation of protozoan parasites, immunobiology of protozoan parasitic diseases, the biochemistry of ...

Entomological surveillance of Trypanosoma cruzi vectors in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Discontinuous entomological surveillance and persistent infestation by triatomines highlight the risk of Trypanosoma cruzi transmission. The diversity of triatomine species in the peridomicile shows the potential for colonization into the home. The wide distribution of Triatoma brasiliensis and Triatoma pseudomaculata accompanies high rates of ...

Turnip mosaic virus utilizes the lipid droplet biogenesis machinery to facilitate its propagation in plants

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Potyvirus turnip mosaic virus induces neutral lipid accumulation and lipid droplet biogenesis in infected leaves for its own benefit. Summary Lipid droplets (LDs), which are dedicated to storing neutral lipids (NLs), are dynamic organelles involved in numerous other functions, including membrane remodeling during abiotic stress.

From Infection to Anxiety: A Sequential Model Linking Latent Toxoplasmosis to Psychological Distress via Health and Stress

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Identifying the drivers of chronic stress is crucial for understanding its impact on mental health. Latent toxoplasmosis, a widespread parasitic infection, has been linked to various psychological changes. The Stress‐Coping Hypothesis proposes that at least some of these changes are consequences of chronic stress arising from the infection's ...

Identification and characterization of the arsenite methyltransferase from a protozoan, Tetrahyrnena pyriformis

open access: yes, 2014
Arsenic (As) methylation in aquatic microbes plays a major role in the biogeochemistry of As. Protozoa, especially the free-living freshwater species, are important players in aquatic ecological health.

The Contribution of Entomological Surveillance to the Control of Chagas Disease in Endemic Regions: An Integrative Literature Review

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chagas disease remains a significant public health challenge in various endemic regions of Latin America. The persistence of vector‐borne transmission highlights the complexity of the issue and the limitations of traditional strategies. In this context, entomological surveillance plays a strategic and multifaceted role, not only in the early ...
