Detection of enteric parasite DNA in household and bed dust samples: potential for infection transmission. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Enteric parasites are transmitted in households but few studies have sampled inside households for parasites and none have used sensitive molecular methods.

Avian haemosporidian blood parasites are typically identified through Sanger sequencing of a partial cytochrome b fragment, the MalAvi barcoding region. Next‐generation sequencing is seldom used for avian blood parasite identification; this study demonstrates a higher detection rate of co‐infections via metabarcoding and its possible implications ...

Targeting Channels and Transporters in Protozoan Parasite Infections
Infectious diseases caused by pathogenic protozoa are among the most significant causes of death in humans. Therapeutic options are scarce and massively challenged by the emergence of resistant parasite strains.

We have found evidence of behavioural barriers for both hybridization and disease transmission between European wildcats and domestic cats. This includes hierarchical interspecies exclusion enforced by wildcats, as well as sexual selection exerted by wildcat females.

Proteomic and Transcriptomic Signatures of Poor Asthma Symptom Control in the U‐BIOPRED Cohort
No stable features were identified as associated with asthma symptom control in transcriptomics or sputum proteomics. Higher TWEAKR/TNFRSF12A and MBL/MBP‐C serum levels increased the odds of uncontrolled symptoms, while higher MK08/MAPK8 and CD5L serum levels decreased the odds, after adjustment for clinical variables.

Abstract In Colombia's northeastern borderlands, agrarian economies shape how disease risk and stigma are understood and managed. As shown in ethnographic fieldwork in and around the Catatumbo region, cutaneous leishmaniasis—a sandfly‐transmitted disease that produces chronic skin lesions—appears in two radically different guises across adjacent ...

Immunology and Infection by Protozoan Parasites [PDF]
Protozoan infection is the cause of diseases of high morbidity and mortality. Most are non-self-limiting chronic infections and neglected diseases; emergent antimicrobial-resistant strains pose a substantial problem; for many of them treatment either is highly toxic or has limited effectiveness.

Surgical management of recurrent oesophageal obstruction in a yearling Saddlebred filly
Summary This case report describes the diagnostic approach and surgical management of a yearling Saddlebred filly with recurrent oesophageal obstruction, likely caused by an acquired extraluminal oesophageal stricture.
