Birnavirus‐associated proventriculitis in French broiler chickens
TRANSMISSIBLE viral proventriculitis (TVP) has been described sporadically in broiler chickens in the USA for decades. Clinically, this disease is characterised by impaired growth (‘runting’), poor feed conversion and limited mortality. Gross lesions are limited to enlargement and pallor of the proventriculus (Dormitorio and others 2007).

Catarrhal proventriculitis associated with a filamentous organism in pet birds. [PDF]
Catarrhal proventriculitis due to infection by an unidentified organism was diagnosed in 79 of 534 pet birds examined histologically. It was more prevalent in domestic birds (70 cases) than in imported ones (9 cases). A high incidence of the disease was encountered in budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus) and it was occasionally found in finches ...

Runting Stunting Syndrome Associated with Transmissible Viral Proventriculitis in Broiler Chickens
This report describes an outbreak of transmissible viral proventriculitis (TVP) associated with runting stunting syndrome (RSS) in 25- and 28-day-old broiler chickens, in which chicken proventricular necrosis virus (CNPV) was detected. Clinical signs included poor uniformity, very small birds for their age, increased mortality, and culling of smaller ...

Reproduction of Proventriculitis in Commercial and Specific-Pathogen-Free Broiler Chickens
Avian Diseases, 2005Proventriculitis was studied by experimentally reproducing the disease in broiler chickens. One-day-old infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) and infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) antibody positive commercial broilers and 1-day-old antibody negative specific-pathogen-free (SPF) broilers were orally gavaged with proventricular homogenates produced from

Transmissible Viral Proventriculitis Identified in Broiler Breeder and Layer Hens
Avian Diseases, 2012Transmissible viral proventriculitis (TVP) is a recognized cause of production losses in broiler chickens, but previously it has not been reported in broiler breeder and commercial layer hens. In this study, TVP was identified in broiler breeder and commercial layer hens, 9-20 wk of age, based on histopathologic detection of characteristic microscopic ...

Mycotic Proventriculitis in Gray Partridges (Perdix perdix) on Two Game Bird Farms
Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2008Proventriculitis and chronic respiratory disease were diagnosed in two flocks of gray partridges (Perdix perdix) on unrelated Swedish game bird farms. Affected birds showed loss of condition, respiratory signs, and flock mortality rates of 50 and 98%, respectively.

Infectious bursal disease‐like virus in cases of transmissible viral proventriculitis
TRANSMISSIBLE viral proventriculitis (TVP) is an infectious disease of chickens that results in an enlarged and fragile proventriculus. The disease is characterised by specific microscopic lesions that include glandular epithelial (oxynticopeptic) cell necrosis, ductal epithelial hyperplasia ...

Microbial Pathogenesis
This study establishes the deoxynivalenol (DON)-induced proventriculitis model in chicks to evaluate the protective effects of UDP-glucosyltransferases (UGTs) against glandular stomach injury. In this study, the total of 75 1-day-old male partridge chicks were randomly divided into 5 groups or 10 days, the dietary and treatments includes basal diet as ...

Transmissible proventriculitis in broilers
Avian Pathology, 2007This article reviews transmissible proventriculitis in poultry from 1971 to 2006. The disease is important in commercial broilers worldwide, resulting in reduced profits. The aetiology of this disease is unknown and different clinical presentations often result in a confused or complicated diagnosis.
