Morphological and ultrastructural characterization and cuticular armature of the proventriculus in Bolua turkiyae Ünal, 1999 (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae)

Microscopy research and technique (Print), 2021
The alimentary canal is divided into three parts in insects as foregut, midgut, and hindgut. The intima of the foregut in orthopteran species is covered by cuticular layer which is differentiated into some spicules, microspines, lamellae, teeth, and ...

The morphological development of the proventriculus of Dandarawi chick: Light and electron microscopical studies.

Morphologie : bulletin de l'Association des anatomistes, 2020
This study was carried out on 40 chick embryos collected from incubated eggs of Dandarawi chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) on the 5th to 19th incubation day (27 to 45 Hamburger and Hamilton, H&H stages). In addition, 15 chicks were collected on the day

Glycogen in the proventriculus of the tsetse fly

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1973
Abstract Glycogen was detected in the proventriculus of the tsetse fly, Glossina morsitans morsitans, by ultrastructural, histochemical, and biochemical methods. This organ contained ten times or more glycogen on a dry weight basis than was found in the thoracic muscle.

Gastrin Activity in the Chicken Proventriculus

Nature, 1973
Reaumur and Spallanzani1 used birds as experimental animals in the early days of digestive physiology; other workers on avian gastric digestion include Cheney2, Friedman3 and Long4. The bird lacks the gastric antrum analogous to that in the mammalian species and there is a tubularly shaped glandular stomach called proventriculus which produces the ...

Histological and histochemical study of the proventriculus (Ventriculus glandularis) of common starling (Sturnus vulgaris)

Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia. Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series C, 2019
The histological and histochemical structures of the proventriculus of starling (Sturnus vulgaris) were examined using haematoxylin and eosin and special staining, that is periodic acid schiff (PAS), Masson's trichrome, Alcian blue, Orcein and Reticulin.

Ultramorphology of the proventriculus in Panorpidae and Bittacidae (Mecoptera)

Micron, 2009
The proventriculus is a specialized part of the foregut in the alimentary canal in some insects, varying greatly in its structure across different insect groups. The ultramorphology of the proventriculus in Mecoptera was investigated in eight species of Panorpidae and one of the Bittacidae using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.

Changes in ghrelin levels of plasma and proventriculus and ghrelin mRNA of proventriculus in fasted and refed layer chicks

Domestic Animal Endocrinology, 2007
This is a test-report of ghrelin levels in plasma and proventriculus, the glandular portion of the avian stomach, by using a specific radioimmunoassay for acylated ghrelin, as well as the expression of the ghrelin gene in the proventriculus after a 12-h fasting period followed by a 6-h feeding period with 6-day-old layer chicks.

Histochemical localization of carbonic anhydrase in fowl proventriculus

Experientia, 1980
The carbonic anhydrase activity in fowl proventriculus was studied by the histochemical method of Hanssom. The activity was observed in the mucose membrane cells and in proventricular gland cells. These results, about which there is disagreement in the literature, are discussed in the text.

Development of the diffuse endocrine system in the chicken proventriculus

Cell & Tissue Research, 1993
The development of endocrine cells in the chicken proventriculus has been investigated using light- and electron-microscopy in conjunction with silver and immunocytochemical techniques. The first morphologically detectable endocrine cells were found in 5-day-old embryos by electron microscopy.

Action of serotonin on gastric (proventriculus) secretion in chickens

Comparative and General Pharmacology, 1971
Abstract 1. 1. Serotonin and duodenal distension inhibited basal, histamine-induced, and pentagastrin-induced gastric secretion in chickens. 2. 2. In UML-491 and reserpine pre-treated chickens, the inhibitory effects of duodenal distension and serotonin on gastric secretion were abolished. 3. 3.
