Proventriculus of Cephalotes ants: A structural and comparative analysis

open access: yesMicron, 2010
The use of optic microscopy and scanning electron microscopy propitiated the comparative examination of the structure of the proventriculus bulb of Cephalotes atratus, Cephalotes clypeatus and Cephalotes pusillus. This portion of the digestive tract possesses highly sclerotized projections which act in the selection of victuals.

Glycogen in the proventriculus of the tsetse fly

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1973
Abstract Glycogen was detected in the proventriculus of the tsetse fly, Glossina morsitans morsitans, by ultrastructural, histochemical, and biochemical methods. This organ contained ten times or more glycogen on a dry weight basis than was found in the thoracic muscle.

Gastrin Activity in the Chicken Proventriculus

Nature, 1973
Reaumur and Spallanzani1 used birds as experimental animals in the early days of digestive physiology; other workers on avian gastric digestion include Cheney2, Friedman3 and Long4. The bird lacks the gastric antrum analogous to that in the mammalian species and there is a tubularly shaped glandular stomach called proventriculus which produces the ...

Ultramorphology of the proventriculus in Panorpidae and Bittacidae (Mecoptera)

Micron, 2009
The proventriculus is a specialized part of the foregut in the alimentary canal in some insects, varying greatly in its structure across different insect groups. The ultramorphology of the proventriculus in Mecoptera was investigated in eight species of Panorpidae and one of the Bittacidae using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.

Changes in ghrelin levels of plasma and proventriculus and ghrelin mRNA of proventriculus in fasted and refed layer chicks

Domestic Animal Endocrinology, 2007
This is a test-report of ghrelin levels in plasma and proventriculus, the glandular portion of the avian stomach, by using a specific radioimmunoassay for acylated ghrelin, as well as the expression of the ghrelin gene in the proventriculus after a 12-h fasting period followed by a 6-h feeding period with 6-day-old layer chicks.
