Introduction Intervertebral bridging ossification (IBO) occasionally occurs after balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) for osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVFs), contributing to stabilization. However, the predisposing factors remain unclear. This study aimed to identify preoperative factors associated with IBO formation. Methods This was a retrospective cohort

Surgical Procedures Used for Correction of Scheuermann’s Kyphosis: A Meta-Analysis
Objectives. Scheuermann’s kyphosis can cause severe back pain and cosmetic disorders to patients. Previous studies on surgical procedure selection for correction of Scheuermann’s kyphosis have drawn controversial conclusions.

Brace technology thematic series - The Sforzesco and Sibilla braces, and the SPoRT (Symmetric, Patient oriented, Rigid, Three-dimensional, active) concept [PDF]
Bracing is an effective strategy for scoliosis treatment, but there is no consensus on the best type of brace, nor on the way in which it should act on the spine to achieve good correction.

The feasibility of using growth promoting strategies (vertebral periosteal resection and distraction) was investigated via computational and in vivo analysis. Computational analysis demonstrated that there is an increasing mechanical benefit to utilizing concave distraction over convex compression during spinal deformity correction.

Ligament augmentation for prevention of proximal junctional kyphosis and proximal junctional failure in adult spinal deformity [PDF]
OBJECTIVEProximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) is a well-recognized, yet incompletely defined, complication of adult spinal deformity surgery. There is no standardized definition for PJK, but most studies describe PJK as an increase in the proximal junctional angle (PJA) of greater than 10°–20°.

Finite element models of Lenke type 1 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis were morphed into Roussouly sagittal types 1–4 and subjected to pure moment loading. The figure illustrates how sagittal morphology modulates thoracolumbar biomechanics, with Roussouly types 3–4 showing reduced range of motion and more favorable disc loading than types 1–2.
