Background: Thoracolumbar junction (TLJ) is the transitional area between the lower thoracic spine and the upper lumbar spine. Vertebral compression fractures and proximal junctional kyphosis following spine surgery often occur in this area.

Next generation of growth-sparing techniques: preliminary clinical results of a magnetically controlled growing rod in 14 patients [PDF]
Session 3A - Early Onset Scoliosis: Paper no. 33SUMMARY: Growth-sparing techniques are commonly used for the treatment of progressive EOS. The standard growing rod (GR) technique requires multiple surgeries for lengthening.

In summary, we collected the postoperative variation of motion pattern at the adjacent segment in patients with DLS over short‐term follow‐up. As a result, the reduction of coupled motion in adjacent segments indicates an improved balance of the spine compared to before the surgery.

Biomechanical evaluation of different semi-rigid junctional fixation techniques using finite element analysis [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Proximal junctional failure is a common complication attributed to the rigidity of long pedicle screw fixation constructs used for surgical correction of adult spinal deformity.

The average extension of fusion level for repeated vertebral column resection (Re‐VCR) was 5.4 in total and the average correction rates of the Cobb angle of the main curve and kyphosis were 59.5% and 53.7%. Satisfactory radiographic and clinical outcomes after Re‐VCR could be achieved, but great care should be taken. ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the

A review of complications and outcomes following vertebral column resection in adults [PDF]
The correction of rigid spinal deformities in adult patients can require a three-column osteotomy (pedicle subtraction osteotomy [PSO] or vertebral column resection [VCR]) to obtain spinal balance.

Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy for Kyphosis Following Lumbar Fusion Surgery
Introduction: Pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) is performed to correct sagittal plane deformity. This procedure is useful with revision cases in which the number of intact discs for correction is limited.

This study investigated the effectiveness of sagittal stable vertebra (SSV) determined by different sagittal reference lines in predicting the risk of postoperative distal junctional kyphosis (DJK) in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients who underwent posterior spinal fusion (PSF) with the lowest instrumented vertebra (LIV) at or above L1 ...
