The Star Formation Rate - Dense Gas Relation in the Nuclei of Nearby Galaxies

open access: yes, 2008
We investigate the relationship between the star formation rate (SFR) and dense molecular gas mass in the nuclei of galaxies. To do this, we utilize the observed 850 micron luminosity as a proxy for the infrared luminosity and SFR, and correlate this ...

Bootstrapping a New LHC Data Transfer Ecosystem [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2019
GridFTP transfers and the corresponding Grid Security Infrastructure (GSI)-based authentication and authorization system have been data transfer pillars of the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) for more than a decade.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Refining the interpretation of lacustrine carbonate isotope records: Implications of a mineralogy-specific Lake Van case study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Oxygen and carbon isotope (δ18O and δ13C) data from bulk carbonates are widely applied proxies for temperature, the precipitation/evaporation ratio and productivity in lacustrine palaeohydrology and palaeoclimatology. In case of the terminal and alkaline

Support Vector Machine Based Facies Classification Using Seismic Attributes in an Oil Field of Iran [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Oil & Gas Science and Technology, 2013
Seismic facies analysis (SFA) aims to classify similar seismic traces based on amplitude, phase, frequency, and other seismic attributes. SFA has proven useful in interpreting seismic data, allowing significant information on subsurface geological ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Genomic supremacy: the harm of conflating genetic ancestry and race

open access: yesHuman Genomics, 2022
Background Recent studies have reignited the tinderbox of debate surrounding the use of race and ancestry in medicine. These controversial studies have argued for a strong correlation between genetic ancestry and race, justifying continued use of genetic

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

Quieting the Sharholders\u27 Voice: Empirical Evidence of Pervasive Bundling in Proxy Solicitations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The integrity of shareholder voting is critical to the legitimacy of corporate law. One threat to this process is proxy “bundling,” or the joinder of more than one separate item into a single proxy proposal. Bundling deprives shareholders of the right to

Meta‐analysis fails to show any correlation between protein abundance and ubiquitination changes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed over 50 published proteomics datasets to explore the relationship between protein levels and ubiquitination changes across multiple experimental conditions and biological systems. Although ubiquitination is often associated with protein degradation, our analysis shows that changes in ubiquitination do not globally correlate with changes in ...
