On the Hilbert scheme of a Prym variety [PDF]

open access: yesAnnali di Matematica Pura ed Applicata (1923 -), 2004
To any unramified double cover $π:\tilde C \to C$ of projective irreducible and nonsingular curves one associates the Prym variety $P = P(π)$. For $C$ nonhyperelliptic of genus $g \geq 6$ we consider the natural embedding $\tilde C \subset P$ (defined up to translation) of $\tilde C$ into $P$ and we study the local structure of the Hilbert scheme $Hilb^

The geometry and arithmetic of bielliptic Picard curves

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 112, Issue 5, November 2025.
Abstract We study the geometry and arithmetic of the curves C:y3=x4+ax2+b$C \colon y^3 = x^4 + ax^2 + b$ and their associated Prym abelian surfaces P$P$. We prove a Torelli‐type theorem in this context and give a geometric proof of the fact that P$P$ has quaternionic multiplication by the quaternion order of discriminant 6.

Parity of ranks of Jacobians of curves

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 131, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract We investigate Selmer groups of Jacobians of curves that admit an action of a non‐trivial group of automorphisms, and give applications to the study of the parity of Selmer ranks. Under the Shafarevich–Tate conjecture, we give an expression for the parity of the Mordell–Weil rank of an arbitrary Jacobian in terms of purely local invariants ...

Associations Between Leisure‐Time Physical Activity and Metabolomics‐Based Markers of Biological Aging in Late Midlife: Short‐Term and Long‐Term Follow‐Up

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 6, June 2025.
PA may delay the onset of age‐related diseases by decelerating biological aging. We found that higher self‐reported amounts of PA in late midlife and device‐based PA in old age were associated with improved MetaboHealth and that reaching twice the amount of the current PA recommendations in late midlife may lead to decelerated biological aging.

Relative and absolute Lefschetz standard conjectures for some Lagrangian fibrations

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 111, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract We show that the hyper‐Kähler varieties of OG10‐type constructed by Laza–Saccà–Voisin (LSV) verify the Lefschetz standard conjecture. This is an application of a more general result, stating that certain Lagrangian fibrations verify this conjecture. The main technical assumption of this general result is that the Lagrangian fibration satisfies

Consistent cell‐specific carbon fixation rates by small eukaryotic phytoplankton in contrasting nutrient‐limited conditions

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue 1, Page 162-177, January 2025.
Abstract Small phytoplankton, consisting of pico and nano size fractions, are diverse in size and taxonomy. Yet, the differences in their productivity and taxonomic diversity are poorly described. Here, we measured the cell‐specific carbon fixation rates of picocyanobacteria Synechococcus, picoeukaryote, and nanoeukaryote populations, while unveiling ...

On isogenies of Prym varieties

open access: yes, 2017
We prove an extension of the Babbage-Enriques-Petri theorem for semi-canonical curves. We apply this to show that the Prym variety of a generic element of a codimension $k$ subvariety of $\mathcal{R}_{g}$ is not isogenous to another distinct Prym variety, under some mild assumption on $k$.

Prym Varieties of étale covers of hyperelliptic curves [PDF]

open access: yesANNALI SCUOLA NORMALE SUPERIORE - CLASSE DI SCIENZE, 2018
It is well known that the Prym variety of an étale cyclic covering of a hyperelliptic curve is isogenous to the product of two Jacobians. Moreover, if the degree of the covering is odd or congruent to 2 mod 4, then the canonical isogeny is an isomorphism.
