도 1과 같은 광 삼각 방식을 이용한 종래 PSD 센서의 경우, 대상 물체의 측정 표면의 색깔과 상태, 그리고 측정 거리가 멀어짐에 따라 미약한 광이 PSD 센서에 입사되게 되면 입사 광량(intensity)이 변화하여 비선형성이 높아지고 분해능이 낮아지는 등 PSD의 센서 성능이 저하되는 문제점이 있었다.
