Optimized and Aligned Anisotropic Monte Carlo Sampling Patterns

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Path tracing uses Monte Carlo integration to solve the rendering equation by evaluating the integrand at random sampling points. The convergence rate of the error can be significantly improved by using correlated instead of random sampling, especially on smooth integrands.

Yet Another Pseudorandom Number Generator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We propose a novel pseudorandom number generator based on R¨ossler attractor and bent Boolean function. We estimated the output bits properties by number of statistical tests.

Estimating and interpreting psychometric networks in neuropsychology: A tutorial with conceptual extensions

open access: yesJournal of Neuropsychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Network psychometrics has emerged as a promising framework for modelling the structure of neuropsychological data, offering a complementary perspective to traditional latent variable approaches or single test approaches. In neuropsychology, test performance is rarely interpreted in isolation, but rather as reflecting interacting cognitive ...

The Role of Age and Instruction in Children's Learning of Vocabulary and Grammar

open access: yesLanguage Learning, EarlyView.
Abstract It is generally assumed that children and adults learn language through fundamentally different mechanisms: Children predominantly rely on implicit learning, and adults utilize more explicit strategies (Lichtman, 2016). However, little is known about when and how learners begin to benefit from explicit instruction over the course of language ...

Somatosensory processing in long COVID fatigue and its relations with physiological and psychological factors

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract We aimed to quantify somatosensory processing in long COVID and interactions between somatosensory processing, fatigability, fatigue, autonomic function, mood and illness beliefs. Eighty‐eight participants (44 long COVID and 44 controls) were invited to complete two testing sessions, where fatigue was induced by either a cognitive or a ...

High performance FPGA implementation of the mersenne twister [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Efficient generation of random and pseudorandom sequences is of great importance to a number of applications [4]. In this paper, an efficient implementation of the Mersenne Twister is presented. The proposed architecture has the smallest footprint of all

Generating a model of the terrain in the aspect of flood risk estimation [PDF]

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum. Formatio Circumiectus, 2014
Flood modeling is carried out based on the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and hydrological data. The quality of the input data for modeling determines the reliability of flood risk assessment.

Vibrotactile intensity perception: Predominant influence of afferents recruited remote from stimulus site

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend We delivered trains of brief mechanical pulses to the fingertips of subjects to investigate vibrotactile intensity perception. Some stimuli consisted of bursts of up to four pulses. Simulated responses of the tactile afferent population across the hand revealed that afferents innervating the skin directly under the probe reliably

2-d CA variation with asymmetric neighborship for pseudorandom number generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper proposes a variation of 2-d cellular automata (CA) adopting a simpler structure than the normal 2-d CA and a unique neighborship characteristic – asymmetric neighborship.
