APPLICATION OF THE PSEUDOSPECTRAL METHOD TO THERMOHYDRODYNAMIC LUBRICATION

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 1996
Summary: The pseudospectral method is used to solve the thermohydrodynamic lubrication equations for a slider bearing. The orthogonal polynomials used in the series expansions are Lagrangian interpolants derived from a Legendre basis. Exponential convergence to exact solutions is demonstrated, and favourable comparisons with previous work are made.

Direct trajectory optimization based on a mapped Chebyshev pseudospectral method

open access: yesChinese Journal of Aeronautics, 2013
In view of generating optimal trajectories of Bolza problems, standard Chebyshev pseudospectral (PS) method makes the points’ accumulation near the extremities and rarefaction of nodes close to the center of interval, which causes an ill-condition of ...

The Bellman Pseudospectral Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Based on the discoveries of a recently proposed algorithm for low-thrust trajectory optimization, we present the Bellman Pseudospectral (PS) method for a generic optimal control problem. In our original algorithm, we combined the properties of PS methods with Bellman's principle to provide an optimal solution to multi-scale and long horizon trajectory ...

Optimal trajectory planning for trains – A pseudospectral method and a mixed integer linear programming approach

open access: yesTransportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies, 2013
The optimal trajectory planning problem for train operations under constraints and fixed arrival time is considered. The varying line resistance, variable speed restrictions, and varying maximum traction force are included in the problem definition.

Costate Estimation by a Legendre Pseudospectral Method

Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 1998
We present a Legendre pseudospectral method for directly estimating the costates of the Bolza problem encountered in optimal control theory. The method is based on calculating the state and control variables at the Legendre‐Gauss‐Lobatto (LGL) points. An Nth degree Lagrange polynomial approximation of these variables allows a conversion of the optimal ...

Scalability of pseudospectral methods for geodynamo simulations

Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, 2010
AbstractThe problem of understanding how Earth's magnetic field is generated is one of the foremost challenges in modern science. It is believed to be generated by a dynamo process, where the complex motions of an electrically conducting fluid provide the inductive action to sustain the field against the effects of dissipation.
