Pseudothrombocytopenia in a Preterm Neonate

Pediatrics, 2004
Severe and prolonged thrombocytopenia is not uncommon among ill preterm infants. Pseudothrombocytopenia, which has the appearance of severe and prolonged thrombocytopenia, has not been described in this population. We observed a preterm neonate who had EDTA-independent pseudothrombocytopenia and conclude that this condition should be considered when ...

EDTA-Induced Pseudothrombocytopenia

Southern Medical Journal, 1992
A 45-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of unstable angina pectoris. During the wait for coronary artery bypass surgery, the platelet count gradually decreased from 154,000 to 20,000/mm3, without hemorrhagic manifestations. Medications were discontinued and surgery was postponed.

Pseudothrombocytopenia and Mexiletine

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1984

Anticoagulant-induced Pseudothrombocytopenia and Pseudoleucocytosis

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1995
SummaryPseudothrombocytopenia (PTP) is the phenomenon of falsely low platelet counts due to in vitro platelet clumping in the presence of platelet autoantibodies and anticoagulants. We assessed anticoagulant- dependence, time course of platelet counts and impact of different counter devices on the phenomenon.

Documented sudden onset of pseudothrombocytopenia

Annals of Hematology, 1997
A 66-year-old male patient was hospitalized for severe heart failure. Within 3 days after admission his platelet count dropped from 148 x 10(9)/l to 3 x 10(9)/l. Pseudothrombocytopenia was diagnosed based on the platelet count of 3 x 10(9)/l in K3-EDTA anticoagulated blood as opposed to 110 x 10(9)/l in sodium citrate. Platelet reactive antibodies were

Prevalence and course of pseudothrombocytopenia in outpatients

cclm, 2010
Abstract Background: The prevalence and course of pseudothrombocytopenia in outpatients is uncertain. Methods: In a cohort study of 687,955 members of a health maintenance organization, we extracted 36,780 consecutive automated complete blood count test results and determined the point

Two Case Reports of Pseudothrombocytopenia

Clinical Laboratory
Platelets as one of the key indicators in blood tests, reflect the number of platelets in the blood, thereby aiding doctors in assessing the blood's coagulation and hemostatic functions. Abnormal platelet counts may indicate a variety of health issues, including hemorrhagic diseases, thrombotic diseases, anemia, leukemia, and more.

Pseudothrombocytopenia -- a caveat.

Journal of the Indian Medical Association, 2012
Pseudothrombocytopenia is an ex vivo thrombocytopenia, counted by an automated cell counter, but not configured by microscopic examination of a well prepared blood smear. Incidences of pseudothrombocytopenia reported in different studies range from 0.09-0.21%, which could account for 15-30% of all cases of thrombocytopenla.
