Comparison of Blood Cell Count Results Between MgSO4 and K2EDTA. Stability and Accuracy of Platelet Counting With MgSO4

open access: yesInternational Journal of Laboratory Hematology, Volume 48, Issue 2, Page 336-344, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction We investigated the stability and accuracy of platelets with MgSO4 and compared the results of blood counts between MgSO4 and K2EDTA. Methods Platelet stability as a function of time was assessed on the XN Sysmex analyzer by comparing the percentage deviation to the desirable bias of the EFLM.

Comparative Analysis of Extracellular Vesicle Isolation From Equine Serum and Plasma Using Two Isolation Methods With Structural and Proteomic Validation

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 2, 31 January 2026.
Schematic workflow of plasma‐ and serum‐derived extracellular vesicle (EV) analysis in horses, including sample preparation, EV isolation using size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC) and ultracentrifugation (UC), vesicle characterization by nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and comparative proteomic profiling

Multi-anticoagulant and EDTA dependent pseudothrombocytopenia. Case reports on two pediatric patients

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2014
Pseudotrombocitopenia este o anomalie in vitro legată de recoltarea probei de sânge, care poate conduce în mod eronat la diagnosticarea unei afecțiuni mai grave și anume trombocitopenia.

TNFAIP3 Gene Polymorphisms and the Risk of Thrombocytopenia: A Cross‐Sectional Study in Iranian Population

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Thrombocytopenia, particularly immune thrombocytopenic purpura, is a prevalent hematological disorder characterized by low platelet counts, leading to increased bleeding risks. Genetic factors, including single nucleotide polymorphisms, are implicated in its pathogenesis.

Pseudothrombocytopenia in perioperative patient: A significant laboratory artifact

open access: yesJournal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 2013
Pseudothrombocytopenia secondary to ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid induced platelet aggregation observed in a healthy perioperative male patient is reported in order to create awareness among anesthesiologist and laboratory personnel.

Moderate‐Severe Thrombocytopenia Portends Poor Outcomes in Multiple Myeloma

open access: yeseJHaem, Volume 6, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma (MM) reprogram the bone marrow microenvironment to support tumor expansion. This myeloma cell–hematopoietic stem cell interaction leads to fewer hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow and altered differentiation of megakaryocytes, which can contribute to MM disease‐related ...

Clinical value of clinician‐ordered pathologist‐reviewed peripheral blood smears in a teaching hospital

open access: yesPrecision Medical Sciences, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 160-167, December 2025.
This study highlights the essential yet selective role of PBS in modern hematology, particularly in diagnosing WBC abnormalities and hematologic malignancies. Abstract Peripheral blood smear (PBS) review is a test performed to evaluate a wide variety of hematologic and non‐hematologic disorders.

An Episode of Pseudothrombocytopenia during Pembrolizumab Therapy in NSCLC Patient

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncological Medicine, 2020
Immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) is a new option of treatment in a growing range of neoplasms. In addition to an antitumor effect, ICI are associated with autoimmune reactions resulting in a wide spectrum of toxicities that have not ...

[Pseudothrombocytopenia].

open access: yesWiadomosci lekarskie (Warsaw, Poland : 1960), 2001
On the basis of literature data we have tried to present contemporary views on pseudothrombocytopenia (PTCP), especially EDTA-dependent pseudothrombocytopenia. False thrombocytopenia is caused by in vitro platelet clumping in EDTA-anticoagulated blood. Electronic blood count shows a low platelet count in subjects with normal platelet levels.

Pseudo-thrombocytopenia (PTCP). A challenge in the daily laboratory routine?

open access: yesJournal of Laboratory Medicine, 2020
Anticoagulation with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is a necessary pre-requisite for automated blood cell counting. With a prevalence of 0.01–1%, EDTA anticoagulation is accompanied by time- and temperature-dependent in vitro aggregation of ...
