Expanding the Horizons of Phototherapy: A Review on the Superior Performance of Chalcogen‐Based Photosensitizers and Photothermal Agents for Cancer Therapy

open access: yesChemPhotoChem, Volume 9, Issue 7, July 2025.
This review summarizes recent progress in chalcogen (S, Se, Te)‐incorporated photosensitizers and photothermal agent design. It explores synthetic strategies, spectroscopic and computational characterization, and in vitro/in vivo evaluations, showcasing the potential of these compounds for photodynamic and photothermal therapies.

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 12, Page 1795-1817, June 2025.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

Five Constituents in Psoralea corylifolia L. Attenuate Palmitic Acid-Induced Hepatocyte Injury via Inhibiting the Protein Kinase C-α/Nicotinamide-Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate Oxidase Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
Psoralea corylifolia L. (PC) is a traditional Chinese herb used to treat yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney in pediatric disease. Our previous studies have found that PC can alleviate the liver oxidative stress of juvenile mice with nonalcoholic ...

Exosomes play an important role in the process of psoralen reverse multidrug resistance of breast cancer

open access: yesJournal of experimental & clinical cancer research : CR, 2016
Release of exosomes have been shown to play critical roles in drug resistance by delivering cargo. Targeting the transfer of exosomes from resistant cells to sensitive cells may be an approach to overcome some cases of drug resistance.

The Role of Sex Hormones in Cartilaginous Tissues: A Scoping Review

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
The role of sex hormones within cartilaginous tissues remains poorly understood. To address this, we assembled and summarized the available literature regarding the effects of sex hormones in the intervertebral disc, temporomandibular joint, and articular cartilage.

A theoretical insight into the photophysics of psoralen

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2006
Psoralen photophysics has been studied on quantum chemistry grounds using the multiconfigurational second-order perturbation method CASPT2. Absorption and emission spectra of the system have been rationalized by computing the energies and properties of the low-lying singlet and triplet excited states.

Combination therapy with BMP-2 and psoralen enhances fracture healing in ovariectomized mice

open access: yesExperimental and Therapeutic Medicine, 2018
The advantages of combining local delivery of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2 with systemic or local anti-osteoporosis treatments have also been studied for enhancing osteoporotic fracture healing.

Effects of Psoralen as an Anti-tumor Agent in Human Breast Cancer MCF-7/ADR Cells.

open access: yesBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2016
Psoralen is a major active component of Psoralea corylifolia. In the present study, we analyzed psoralen-induced changes in human breast cancer MCF-7/ADR cells and investigated the underlying mechanisms of the anticancer effect on MCF-7/ADR cells.
