Chorioptic Mange (Acarina: Psoroptidae) in Domestic and Wild Ruminants in Israel
Experimental & Applied Acarology, 1999In a 20-year-survey, 9364 dairy cattle in 324 herds kept under a zero-grazing management, 1252 beef cattle in 46 herds grazing all the year round, 3347 sheep in 134 herds (only 26 are grazing herds), and 872 goats in 47 herds (only 20 are grazing) were examined.

The biological and environmental factors affecting survival off-the-host of Otodectes cynotis (Acari: Psoroptidae) ear mites were investigated under natural and laboratory conditions. From November 2000 to November 2002 mites were collected monthly from cats and divided into four groups according to sex and stage.

In this study potential vaccine candidate immunogens were identified and evaluated in a vaccine challenge trial. Calves vaccinated with a partially purified fraction of Psoroptes ovis-soluble proteins had 8 of 14 calves free of palpable lesions 8 wk after a challenge infestation. A self-grooming behavioral response elicited by a pruritic immediate-type

Blackbuck Antelope (Antilope cervicapra), a New Host for Psoroptes cuniculi (Acari: Psoroptidae)
Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1988Information was requested on the cause of extensive lesions and death of a blackbuck antelope (Antilope cervicapra). Psoroptes cuniculi, the ear mite of domestic rabbits, was identified as the cause of the lesions. Death of the antelope was attributed to a secondary bacterial infection. This is the first report of P. cuniculi on blackbuck antelope. The

In vitro entomopathogenic activity of Beauveria bassiana against Psoroptes spp. (Acari: Psoroptidae)
Veterinary Parasitology, 2006An indigenous strain (IHEM 18747) of Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin (Deuteromycetes) was evaluated for its in vitro entomopathogenic activity against the parasitic mite Psoroptes ovis Hering (Acari: Psoroptidae) from rabbits. The following aspects were evaluated: (1) effects of conidial concentration on the viability of adult females; (2 ...

Population Increase of Psoroptes Ovis (Acari: Psoroptidae) on Stanchioned Cattle During Summer
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1981Cattle scabies, caused by Psoroptes ovis , became latent during the summer on 5 unstanchioned cattle in Kerrville, Texas, USA. There was a complete resolution of lesions, disappearance of pruritus, and apparent extinction of the mite population. However, the recovery that had begun in spring did not persist on 2 cattle after they were stanchioned and ...

Washed rabbit erythrocytes labeled with radioactive chromium in vitro were resuspended in plasma and injected into 2 adult female rabbits that were heavily infested with ear canker mites, Psoroptes cuniculi . After 24 h the mites were harvested and the radioactivity was measured.

Influence of Psoroptes ovis (Hering) (Acari: Psoroptidae) on the Performance of Beef Steers
Journal of Economic Entomology, 1984Forty-eight Hereford steers were used to determine the effects of Psoroptes avis (Hering) infestations on weight gain, feed conversion, and feed intake. Calves were randomly assigned to six pens with three pens per treatment. No calves were infected in the control pens, whereas two calves in each of the infested pens were initially exposed to P.

Reciprocal cross-matings of Psoroptes ovis and P. cuniculi occurred and produced viable offspring through the F2 generation. Hybrids of these crosses were infective to both rabbits and cattle. Mean lengths of the male l4 setae of the parental species differed significantly from each other as well as from those of the hybrid males.
