Precision Electronic Counting of Psoroptes Ovis (Acari: Psoroptidae)
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1985Psoroptes ovis mites were counted and measured with an electronic particle counter. A comparison of numbers of manually and electronically counted mites yielded a ratio of ca. 0.98. A reliable method for counting and measuring different life stages of near-microscopic arthropods is presented.

Taxonomic reconsideration of the genus Chorioptes Gervais and van Beneden, 1859 (Acari: Psoroptidae)
Experimental & Applied Acarology, 2001The present review of the literature on mites of the genus Chorioptes Gervais and Van Beneden, 1859 argues for a support of the validity of C. bovis (Hering, 1845) and C. texanus Hirst, 1924 based on biological, morphological and molecular genetic studies. However, the validity of three further species. C. crewei Lavoipierre, 1958, C. mydaus Fain, 1975

Ultrastructure of the alimentary canal of the sheep scab mite, Psoroptes ovis (Acari: Psoroptidae)
Veterinary Parasitology, 2002The mite Psoroptes ovis causes sheep scab disease in flocks throughout much of the world. A serious impediment to the development of novel control measures for this mite is our inability to produce in vitro colonies of the mite. Here, we describe the alimentary canal of the mite with the particular aim of determining what it feeds on, as part of a ...

Identification and Purification of a 16-kDa Allergen from Psoroptes ovis (Acarina: Psoroptidae)
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1999Psoroptes ovis, (Hering), the sheep scab mite, is the causative agent of an allergic dermatitis of sheep and cattle. Recent studies of the host immune response to this ectoparasite have provided information that suggests control may be achieved by immune intervention.

The structure of the male and female genital systems of the astigmatid mite Psoroptes ovis (Hering) is described. The male genital system is composed of a paired testis, fused at its proximal part, two vasa deferentia, an ejaculatory duct, into which a single accessory gland opens, and a copulatory organ.

Host associations of permanent ectoparasitic mite Marsupialges misonnei Fain, 1963 (Acariformes: Psoroptidae: Marsupialginae) are analyzed. This species was first recorded from an ethanol-preserved museum specimen of Caluromys philander (Linnaeus, 1758) (Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae) originating from French Guiana.

Variations among Strains of Psoroptes ovis (Acarina: Psoroptidae) on Sheep and Cattle
Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1971Evidence is presented to support the position that distinct strains of the common sheep scab mite, Psoroptes ovis (Hering), may exist. Differentiation between strains is based on observations that (1) some strains withstand population reduction more successfully than others during summer months, (2) members of such strains survived contact with the ...
