The structure of the male and female genital systems of the astigmatid mite Psoroptes ovis (Hering) is described. The male genital system is composed of a paired testis, fused at its proximal part, two vasa deferentia, an ejaculatory duct, into which a single accessory gland opens, and a copulatory organ.

Host associations of permanent ectoparasitic mite Marsupialges misonnei Fain, 1963 (Acariformes: Psoroptidae: Marsupialginae) are analyzed. This species was first recorded from an ethanol-preserved museum specimen of Caluromys philander (Linnaeus, 1758) (Didelphimorphia: Didelphidae) originating from French Guiana.

Population Increase of Psoroptes Ovis (Acari: Psoroptidae) on Stanchioned Cattle During Summer
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1981Cattle scabies, caused by Psoroptes ovis , became latent during the summer on 5 unstanchioned cattle in Kerrville, Texas, USA. There was a complete resolution of lesions, disappearance of pruritus, and apparent extinction of the mite population. However, the recovery that had begun in spring did not persist on 2 cattle after they were stanchioned and ...

The biological and environmental factors affecting survival off-the-host of Otodectes cynotis (Acari: Psoroptidae) ear mites were investigated under natural and laboratory conditions. From November 2000 to November 2002 mites were collected monthly from cats and divided into four groups according to sex and stage.

Variations among Strains of Psoroptes ovis (Acarina: Psoroptidae) on Sheep and Cattle
Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1971Evidence is presented to support the position that distinct strains of the common sheep scab mite, Psoroptes ovis (Hering), may exist. Differentiation between strains is based on observations that (1) some strains withstand population reduction more successfully than others during summer months, (2) members of such strains survived contact with the ...

Mites are an important group of arthropod pests affecting crops, animals and humans. Despite this, detailed physiological studies on these organisms remain sparse due largely to their small size. Unifying models are required to draw together the diverse information from studies on different groups and species. This paper describes a model for digestion

Identification and Purification of a 16-kDa Allergen from Psoroptes ovis (Acarina: Psoroptidae)
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1999Psoroptes ovis, (Hering), the sheep scab mite, is the causative agent of an allergic dermatitis of sheep and cattle. Recent studies of the host immune response to this ectoparasite have provided information that suggests control may be achieved by immune intervention.

The external morphology of adult and immature stages of mange mites of the genus Chorioptes was investigated with the aid of light and scanning electron microscopy. A molecular phylogeny of this genus was inferred based on six genes (18S, 28S rDNA, EF1-α, SRP54, HSP70, and CO1). The validity of four species (Ch. bovis, Ch. panda, Ch.

Two methods of cryofixing skin samples from sheep infested with Psoroptes ovis were compared. In one method the skin biopsy was placed in a capped vial before immersion, while the other allowed direct contact with liquid nitrogen. No statistically significant differences were found between the cryofixation methods with regard to location of P.
