Multiple sequence alignment of psychrophilic, psychrotolerant and mesophilic homologs of VsEndA.

open access: yes, 2017
The sequences of psychrophilic, psychrotolerant and mesophilic enzymes are highlighted in turquoise, blue and black, respectively. The hand icon marks the amino acidic substitutions selected in this study, whereas the pin marks those analyzed by Niiranen

Structures of the psychrophilic Alteromonas haloplanctis a-amylase give insights into cold adaptation at a molecular level

open access: yes, 1998
peer reviewedBackground: Enzymes from psychrophilic (cold-adapted) microorganisms operate at temperatures close to 0 degrees C, where the activity of their mesophilic and thermophilic counterparts is drastically reduced.

In silico analysis of the thermodynamic stability changes of psychrophilic and mesophilic alpha-amylases upon exhaustive single-site mutations.

open access: yes, 2006
Identifying sequence modifications that distinguish psychrophilic from mesophilic proteins is important for designing enzymes with different thermodynamic stabilities and to understand the underlying mechanisms.

Extremophile enzyme activity lab: using catalase from Pyrobaculum calidifontis to highlight temperature sensitivity and thermostable enzyme activity

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology & Biology Education
There are places on earth that are considered to possess extreme physico-chemical characteristics as they relate to life. Surprisingly, there are microbes that have adapted various strategies that enable them to form robust communities in these ...

Ecology and ecophysiology of psychrophilic algae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Psychrophilic algae are extremophilic photoautotrophs that live in various cold habitats. They occur in the form of lake phytoplankton, overgrow sea ice floes and they can be also found on the surface of glaciers and snow.

Physiological and ecological studies of mannitol utilizing marine bacteria

open access: yes, 1985
Bibliography: leaves 166-191Bacteria were isolated from the kelp beds on the West Coast of South Africa. Strains isolated from the water column and kelp fronds were classified as Pseudomonas, Vibrio, Acinetobacter and Flavobacterium species.

The effect of cooling procedure on the characteristics and quality of raw milk

open access: yesMljekarstvo, 2001
Prompt cooling of the milk after milking is vital to preserve milkcharacteristics untill manufacture. The way and the speed of the cooling as well as cooling time and temperature have an important influence on physicochemical characteristics and ...

Thermal inactivation studies on some enzymes from Vibrio marinus, an obligately psychrophilic marine bacterium

open access: yes
Some enzymes of the citric acid cycle and glycolytic pathway in cell-free extracts of Vibrio marinus MP-1 were compared for thermal lability. After one hour of moderate temperature exposure, enzymes of both pathways rapidly lost catalytic activity.
