Fed-batch process for the psychrotolerant marine bacterium Pseudoalteromonas haloplanktis [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2010
Background Pseudoalteromonas haloplanktis is a cold-adapted γ-proteobacterium isolated from Antarctic sea ice. It is characterized by remarkably high growth rates at low temperatures. P. haloplanktis is one of the model organisms of cold-adapted bacteria

Exploring the Habitability of the Outer Solar System Icy Moons for the Extremotolerant Yeast Rhodotorula frigidalcoholis. [PDF]

open access: yesEnviron Microbiol
We investigated the survival of the yeast Rhodotorula frigidalcoholis and analysed its RNA after exposure to icy moon conditions. Our results show how the yeast can tolerate the extreme conditions and performs metabolic functions under the exposure conditions; for example, by halting the cell cycle in order to repair. Created in BioRender.

Psychrotolerant and microaerophilic bacteria in boreal groundwater [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Ecology, 2002
Abstract Growth temperature and microaerophily of 39 phylogenetically different isolates from boreal oxygen-deficient groundwater were studied. Based on growth temperatures, the isolates were mainly psychrotolerant bacteria as 35 grew at 2 degrees C and only three at 35 degrees C.

Enzymatic Activity of Psychrotolerant Antarctic Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesMikrobiolohichnyi Zhurnal, 2021
The Antarctic region has significant potential to study the biodiversity of microorganisms and to search for bacterial producers of glycolytic and proteolytic enzymes with new properties. The aim was to study the extracellular glycosidase and proteolytic activity of four bacteria strains isolated from black lichens of the cliffs of Galindez Island in ...

Volatiles from the Psychrotolerant Bacterium Chryseobacterium polytrichastri [PDF]

open access: yesChemBioChem, 2020
AbstractThe flavobacterium Chryseobacterium polytrichastri was investigated for its volatile profile by use of a closed‐loop stripping apparatus (CLSA) and subsequent GC‐MS analysis. The analyses revealed a rich headspace extract with 71 identified compounds.

Taxonomic Study of Three Novel Paenibacillus Species with Cold-Adapted Plant Growth-Promoting Capacities Isolated from Root of Larix gmelinii

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2023
Exploration of the novel species of the genus Paenibacillus with plant-growth promoting characteristics at the low-temperature environment is of great significance for the development of psychrotolerant biofertilizer in forestry and agriculture.

Molecular insights into the ecology of a psychrotolerant Pseudomonas syringae [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, 2020
Summary Low temperatures constrain cellular life due to reductions in nutrient uptake, enzyme kinetics, membrane permeability, and function of other biomacromolecules. This has implications for the biophysical limits of life on Earth, and the plausibility of life in extraterrestrial locations.

Characterization of the First Cultured Psychrotolerant Representative of Legionella from Antarctica Reveals Its Unique Genome Structure

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2021
Culture-independent analysis shows that Legionella spp. inhabit a wide range of low-temperature environments, but to date, no psychrotolerant or psychrophilic strains have been reported.

Microbiological safety of ungulates meat intended to be frozen and defrosting of frozen ungulates meat. [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA J
Abstract Based on the need for a scientific basis for existing requirements in EU legislation on freezing of meat or for its possible amendment, the opinion compares microbial growth of relevant pathogenic, spoilage and indicator microorganisms within five scenarios of chilling, storage and defrosting of bovine, ovine and porcine meat, using predictive

Enterotoxin Genes, Antibiotic Susceptibility, and Biofilm Formation of Low-Temperature-Tolerant Bacillus cereus Isolated from Green Leaf Lettuce in the Cold Chain

open access: yesFoods, 2020
The prevalence and characteristics of low-temperature-tolerant Bacillus cereus (psychrotolerant B. cereus) in green leaf lettuce collected during cold chain were investigated. Among the 101 isolated B. cereus samples, only 18 were capable of growth at 7 &
