BACKGROUND AIMS: PTEN is a dual lipid/protein phosphatase downregulated in steatotic livers with obesity or HCV infection. Liver specific PTEN knockout (LPTEN KO) mice develop steatosis inflammation/fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma with aging but surprisingly also enhanced glucose tolerance.
