Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

On the use of Dynamic Topologies for Representing Spatially Moving Entities

open access: yesITM Web of Conferences, 2013
In many psychical systems, entities can only communicate when within the range of their sensors. When entities are static, the topology of the communication infrastructure can be known in advance and kept unchanged during simulation.

Security, Performance and Energy Trade-offs of Hardware-assisted Memory Protection Mechanisms

open access: yes, 2019
The deployment of large-scale distributed systems, e.g., publish-subscribe platforms, that operate over sensitive data using the infrastructure of public cloud providers, is nowadays heavily hindered by the surging lack of trust toward the cloud ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

A Comprehensive Security Framework for Publish/Subscribe-Based IoT Services Communication

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
The publish/subscribe paradigm provides a loosely-coupled and scalable communication model for the large-scale IoT service systems, such as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

An Electric Vehicle Charging Management Scheme Based on Publish/Subscribe Communication Framework

open access: yes, 2016
Motivated by alleviating CO$_2$ pollution, Electric Vehicle (EV) based applications have recently received wide interests from both commercial and research communities by using electric energy instead of traditional fuel energy.

Efficient Distributed Subtyping Tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Subtyping tests are essential in typed publish/subscribe infrastructures, especially when the underlying programming language supports subtype conformance, as in Java or C#.
