Puccinia triticina (wheat brown rust).

2021
Abstract Leaf rust seldom kills wheat, but it is capable of causing 35-50% yield loss in endemic areas on susceptible cultivars, where severity levels of 25-40% are reached at the tillering stage and 100% at the flowering stage. The disease causes more damage worldwide than other wheat rusts.

Genetic differentiation of Puccinia triticina Erikss. in Russia

Russian Journal of Genetics, 2017
A collection of Puccinia triticina isolates was characterized for polymorphism of microsatellite loci and estimated for their differentiation by geographic origin. The collection included 20 isolates from the Ural region, 31 from West Siberia, 53 from Central Europe, 32 from the Northwest region, 32 from the Volga region, and 40 from the North Caucasus

Historical Development of the Puccinia triticina Population in South Africa

Plant Disease, 2021
In contrast to many other countries, the virulence and genetic diversity of the South African Puccinia triticina population before 1980 is unknown, because of the absence of regular and systematic race analysis data and viable rust cultures. Herbarium specimens housed at the National Collection of Fungi, Biosystematics Unit, Plant Health and ...

New Puccinia triticina races on wheat in South Africa

Australasian Plant Pathology, 2018
Virulence analysis of the South African Puccinia triticina Eriks. population from 2012 to 2016 revealed the presence of four new wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) leaf rust races, which coincided with the increased incidence of the disease during this period.

Полиморфизм российских изолятов гриба Puccinia triticina Eriks по вирулентности

Australasian Plant Pathology, 2016
Virulence of P. triticina isolates collected in 9 agroecological regions of Russian Federation and Kazakhstan in 2006–2014 was studied. 62 virulence phenotypes were revealed among tested 179 isolates. The variability for virulence to genes Lr1, Lr2a, Lr2b, Lr2c, Lr3а, Lr3bg, Lr3ka, Lr9, Lr14a, Lr14b, Lr15, Lr16, Lr18, Lr19, Lr20, Lr24, Lr26 and Lr30 ...

Transient expression and insertional mutagenesis of Puccinia triticina using biolistics

Functional & Integrative Genomics, 2005
The fungal genus Puccinia contains more than 4,000 species. Puccinia triticina, causal agent of wheat leaf rust, is an economically significant, biotrophic basidiomycete. Little is known about the molecular biology of this group, and tools for understanding gene function have not yet been established.

Clonality and host selection in the wheat pathogenic fungus Puccinia triticina [PDF]

open access: possibleFungal Genetics and Biology, 2007
Clonal reproduction in Puccinia triticina, the cause of wheat leaf rust, has long been hypothesized but has never been demonstrated. Using a population genetics approach and microsatellite markers, we analysed genetic diversity of this fungus at each level of genome organisation.

Microsatellite analysis of Puccinia triticina from Triticum and Aegilops hosts

Australasian Plant Pathology, 2018
Genetic variation between different populations of Puccinia triticina from Russia and Kazakhstan was evaluated, based on 18 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. Seventeen collections of P. triticina (181 single-uredinial isolates, in total) obtained from 15 different host species belonging to Aegilops and Triticum were included in the study.

Global status of wheat leaf rust caused by Puccinia triticina

Euphytica, 2011
Leaf rust caused by Puccinia triticina is the most common and widely distributed of the three wheat rusts. Losses from leaf rust are usually less damaging than those from stem rust and stripe rust, but leaf rust causes greater annual losses due to its more frequent and widespread occurrence.

Diversity and Virulence Dynamics within Puccinia triticina Populations in Egypt

Journal of Plant Protection and Pathology, 2018
Leaf rust caused by Puccinia triticina Eriks., is one of the most common diseases of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)  in Egypt and worldwide. To investigate the population genetic structure of the causal pathogen, 468 single isolates were obtained from 193 samples collected from 12 Egyptian governorates and analyzed during 2016/17 and 2017/18 growing ...
