Electrostatic pull-in instability for tweezer architectures [PDF]
The authors investigate the static pull-in instability of electrostatically actuated tweezers with tubular electrodes. It is well known that an accurate analytical prediction of pull-in parameters is fundamental for the correct determination of the operation voltage and power dissipation in the system, in addition to the limitations on power ...

Effects of Casimir force on pull-in instability in micromembranes
We analyze pull-in instability of electrostatically actuated microelectromechanical systems, and study changes in pull-in parameters due to the Casimir effect. When the size of the device is reduced, the magnitude of the Casimir force is comparable with that of the Coulomb force and it significantly alters pull-in parameters.

Dynamic Pull-In Instability of Initially Curved Microbeams
In this study, dynamic pull-in instability and snap-through buckling of initially curved microbeams are investigated. The microbeams are actuated by suddenly applied electrostatic force. A finite element model is developed to discretize the governing equations and Newmark time discretization is employed to solve the discretized equations.

Size-dependent pull-in instability of torsional nano-actuator
It is well established that the mechanical behavior of ultra-small elements is size-dependent. In this paper, strain gradient continuum theory is applied for modeling the size-dependent pull-in instability of torsional nano-actuator. An actuator with a general hexagonal shape main plate is considered.

On pull-in instabilities of microcantilevers
International Journal of Engineering Science, 2015Abstract In this paper the static deflection and pull-in instability of electrostatically actuated microcantilevers is investigated based on the strain gradient theory. The equation of motion and boundary conditions are derived using Hamilton’s principle and solved numerically.
