This multicenter retrospective cohort study suggested that postoperative infection (PI) after curative colorectal surgery (CRC) is associated with impaired oncological outcomes. Strategies to prevent PI and implement appropriate postoperative treatment may improve the quality of care and oncological outcomes in patients undergoing curative CRC surgery.

Inhaled airborne particles smaller than 100 nm entering the airways have been shown to deposit in significant amount in the alveolar region of the lungs. The interior of the alveoli is covered with a ~ 1 micron thick lining fluid, called pulmonary surfactant.

肺血栓塞栓症は近年増加傾向にある疾患のひとつである.しかも,突然の発症より急速に重篤になる症例もあり,迅速な診断と治療がその後を左右する.臨床状況から本症を想起し疑った時点でただちに抗血栓療法を開始すべきである.治療はヘパリン,ウロキナーゼに加え,最近tissue-type plasminogen activatorや遺伝子工学による新しい血栓溶解薬も開発され今後の臨床的評価が待たれる.

Since the exhaled particles are micro-samples of the ALF, their trapping opens up an opportunity to collect non-invasively a native material from respiratory tract.
