Lung-Function Trajectories Leading to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2015
BACKGROUND Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is thought to result from an accelerated decline in forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) over time.

Automatic lobe segmentation using attentive cross entropy and end-to-end fissure generation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The automatic lung lobe segmentation algorithm is of great significance for the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases, however, which has great challenges due to the incompleteness of pulmonary fissures in lung CT images and the large variability of pathological features.

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories predict survival in trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors applied joint/mixed models that predict mortality of trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories. Patients at high risk of death could be spared aggressive therapy with the prospect of a higher quality of life in their remaining lifetime, whereas patients with a ...

Physical activity and its clinical correlates in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension

open access: yesPulmonary Circulation, 2022
Limited data are available on physical activity (PhA) levels in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) patients, as well as on the clinical utility of PhA measurements using questionnaires and accelerometers.

Reactive Oxygen Species in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, 2018
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Environmental exposure, primarily cigarette smoking, can cause high oxidative stress and is the main factor of COPD development.

A Systems Engineering Approach to Modeling and Analysis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive lung disease characterized by airflow limitation. This study develops a systems engineering framework for representing important mechanistic details of COPD in a model of the cardio-respiratory system.

MET and NF2 alterations confer primary and early resistance to first‐line alectinib treatment in ALK‐positive non‐small‐cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Alectinib resistance in ALK+ NSCLC depends on treatment sequence and EML4‐ALK variants. Variant 1 exhibited off‐target resistance after first‐line treatment, while variant 3 and later lines favored on‐target mutations. Early resistance involved off‐target alterations, like MET and NF2, while on‐target mutations emerged with prolonged therapy.

A Trial of Home Oxygen for Acute Asthma Attacks for the Prevention of Asthmatic Death

open access: yesAllergology International, 2005
Physicians are very much concerned that death from asthma has not significantly declined despite modern treatment. Since most asthma deaths take place at home it is mandatory to keep in mind that adequate management should be commenced as early as ...
