Telehealthcare for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease of irreversible airways obstruction in which patients often suffer exacerbations. Sometimes these exacerbations need hospital care: telehealthcare has the potential to reduce admission

Cellular senescence mediates fibrotic pulmonary disease

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a fatal disease characterized by interstitial remodelling, leading to compromised lung function. Cellular senescence markers are detectable within IPF lung tissue and senescent cell deletion rejuvenates pulmonary ...

Susceptibility to exacerbation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2010
BACKGROUND Although we know that exacerbations are key events in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), our understanding of their frequency, determinants, and effects is incomplete.

Extraction of Pulmonary Airway in CT Scans Using Deep Fully Convolutional Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Accurate, automatic and complete extraction of pulmonary airway in medical images plays an important role in analyzing thoracic CT volumes such as lung cancer detection, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchoscopic-assisted surgery navigation.

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension and co-existing lung disease: is this a new phenotype?

open access: yesPulmonary Circulation, 2020
Patients classified as idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (defined as Group 1 on European Respiratory Society (ERS)/European Cardiac Society (ESC) criteria) may have evidence of minor co-existing lung disease on thoracic computed tomography.

New genetic signals for lung function highlight pathways and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease associations across multiple ancestries.

open access: yesNature Genetics, 2018
Reduced lung function predicts mortality and is key to the diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In a genome-wide association study in 400,102 individuals of European ancestry, we define 279 lung function signals, 139 of which are ...
