First report of multinodular pulmonary fibrosis associated with equine herpesvirus 5 in Belgium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A 20-year-old horse was evaluated for symptoms of weight loss, anorexia, fever and lethargy. Clinical examination revealed tachypnea, poor body condition and increased breath sounds on auscultation. Ultrasound showed multiple consolidations on the lungs.

Deficiency of DEK proto‐oncogene alleviates allergic rhinitis by inhibiting RhoA/Ezrin‐mediated mitochondrial fission

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram of the mechanism of DEK regulating RhoA activation Ezrin. Upon house dust mite (HDM) stimulation, HDM‐specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) and inflammatory factors such as interleukin 4 (IL‐4), IL‐5, IL‐13, and eosinophils increased in the nasal mucosa.

Detection of pulmonary pathologies using convolutional neural networks, Data Augmentation, ResNet50 and Vision Transformers [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Pulmonary diseases are a public health problem that requires accurate and fast diagnostic techniques. In this paper, a method based on convolutional neural networks (CNN), Data Augmentation, ResNet50 and Vision Transformers (ViT) is proposed to detect lung pathologies from medical images.

Learning Shape and Texture Characteristics of CT Tree-in-Bud Opacities for CAD Systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
Although radiologists can employ CAD systems to characterize malignancies, pulmonary fibrosis and other chronic diseases; the design of imaging techniques to quantify infectious diseases continue to lag behind. There exists a need to create more CAD systems capable of detecting and quantifying characteristic patterns often seen in respiratory tract ...

Animal models of lung cancer: Phenotypic comparison of different animal models of lung cancer and their application in the study of mechanisms

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Grafts used to construct lung cancer animal models come from various sources, primarily cell lines, patient‐derived tumor tissues, and circulating tumor cells. Based on the sources of grafts and research objectives, lung cancer animal models can be categorized into several types: chemical‐induced models, orthotopic transplantation models, heterotopic ...

Predicting Risk of Pulmonary Fibrosis Formation in PASC Patients [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
While the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, its long-term effects persist through Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), commonly known as Long COVID. There remains substantial uncertainty regarding both its duration and optimal management strategies.
