Case report of pulmonary vein isolation in situs inversus totalis [PDF]

open access: yes
BACKGROUND: Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare condition, where all the organs in the body are mirrored. Atrial fibrillation occurs in patients with SIT. We describe the case of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) in SIT.

Catheter pulmonary vein isolation with drug testing of dormant conduction and detection of non-pulmonary vein triggers and high frequency stimulation of left atrial ganglionated plexi in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

open access: yesПатология кровообращения и кардиохирургия, 2018
Background. Catheter pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is the main interventional procedure for treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). Recurrences of arrhythmia paroxysms in the postoperative period are mainly determined by reconnection of conduction from ...

Therapeutic Applications of Stimuli‐Based Release and Engineering of Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the effects of endogenous and exogenous stimuli, their effects on the natural release of extracellular vesicles, as well as their uptake and release. It also gives an overview of stimuli‐responsive EVs and their therapeutic applications. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), nano‐ to microsized lipid bilayer membrane‐bound particles, are

From armadillos to sloths: Patterns and variations in xenarthran coronary anatomy

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Species of the superorder Xenarthra play a vital ecological role in the Neotropics. Despite their evolutionary significance, anatomical studies on their coronary circulation remain scarce. This study investigated the coronary anatomy of 82 hearts from nine Xenarthra species across the Dasypodidae, Myrmecophagidae, and Bradypodidae.

Pulmonary vein isolation and the Cox maze procedure only partially denervate the atrium

open access: yes, 2008
ObjectivesThe effects of ablation lines on myocardial innervation and response to autonomic stimuli are unclear. This study examined the effects of radiofrequency ablation on atrial autonomic innervation and compared pulmonary vein isolation and the ...

Prophylactic Enoxaparin Reduces Symptomatic Venous Thromboembolism Compared With No Chemoprophylaxis Within 95 Days After Knee Arthroscopy

open access: yesArthroscopy, EarlyView.
Purpose To investigate whether prophylactic use of low‐molecular‐weight heparin (enoxaparin) after knee arthroscopy reduces the incidence of symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE) compared with no postoperative pharmacological prophylaxis. Methods We conducted a population‐based cohort study using linked national insurance and hospital data from ...

Anatomical extent of pulmonary vein isolation after cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation: comparison between the 23 and 28 mm balloons

open access: yes, 2011
Item does not contain fulltextBACKGROUND: Pulmonary vein isolation seems to occur in the distal part of the ostium leaving the atrium largely unablated when using the 23 mm cryoballoon catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation.

Duck Orbivirus and Egg Production: A Newly Identified Duck Orbivirus Is the Etiological Agent of Egg Production Decline in Chinese Breeder Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Field samples from breeder duck farms with egg‐production decline were subjected to viral detection, genome sequencing, and virus isolation. Experimental infection demonstrated that duck orbivirus (DORV) causes a significant and persistent reduction in egg production in breeder ducks.

Trochleoplasty Is Associated With High Rates of Patellofemoral Arthritis: A Systematic Review

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To identify 2‐ to 5‐ and >10‐year complications of trochleoplasty and define rates of postoperative patellofemoral arthritis. Methods PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were queried for terms related to trochleoplasty. Included studies were clinical studies using trochleoplasty to manage patellofemoral instability and were published in English ...
