ISO 14001 Certification and Environmental Performance in Quebec's Pulp and Paper Industry [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper tests whether adopting the international norm ISO 14001 significantly impacts environmental performance in Quebec's pulp and paper industry. Using monthly data collected from 37 plants between 1997 and 2003, we show that: i) ISO certification ...

Torsional and compression loading of paperboard packages: Experimental and FE analysis

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, Volume 36, Issue 1, Page 31-44, January 2023., 2023
Finite element simulations and physical experiments were performed to analyse torsional and compression loading of paperboard packages. The FE simulations accurately predicted the experimental load–deformation curves, with an expected overprediction, regardless of if the FE model was a single‐ply structure or a laminate model.

Using Ex Post Data to Estimate the Hurdle Rate of Abatement Investments – An Application to the Swedish Pulp and Paper Industry and Energy Sector [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a method for estimating hurdlerates for firms' investments in pollution abatement technology, using expost data. The method is based on a structural option value model where thefuture price of polluting fuel is the major source of uncertainty ...

Production planning in the pulp and paper industry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper examines the short term production planning problem encountered in the fine-paper industry. In this industry, different types of pulp are transformed by parallel papermachines into large rolls of paper sheets. The paper sheets are then cut and

Investigating the Degradation of Historical Man‐Made Cellulose‐Derived Textiles via Accelerated Ageing

open access: yesChemPlusChem, EarlyView.
Cellulose‐derived materials, such as paper and cellulose acetate, degrade in museum collections. The degradation of man‐made cellulose fibers remains poorly understood. This study examines historical cellulose acetate and regenerated cellulose textiles using accelerated ageing. Identified markers, for instance surface changes, mass loss, discoloration,
