Comparative Study of Gas and Liquid Flow in Packed Beds Using Phase‐Contrast MRI

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
This work presents applications of phase‐contrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to investigate fluid flow fields and temperature in packed beds. Comparison of ethane (C2H6) gas flow with that of water flow is done at similar flow conditions. The temperature of water is also measured using MRI.

On Metal Carbonyl Compounds in Catalytic Methanol Synthesis: Detection, Consequences, and Removal

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Deactivation of Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts by metal carbonyl compounds in the feed gas is a critical problem in catalytic methanol synthesis. We utilize PTR–MS to identify potential chemical sources, detect contamination in an in‐house CO gas line, and validate filter methods for removing these catalyst poisons before synthesis.

Are Local Heat Transfer Quantities Useful for Predicting the Working Behavior of Different Pulsating Heat Pipe Layouts? A Comparative Study

open access: yesFluids
Despite a continuous effort devoted by the scientific community, a large-scale employment of Pulsating Heat Pipes for thermal management applications is still nowadays undermined by the low reliability of such heat transfer systems.

Heat Transfer and Energy Saving Characteristics of 3D Pulsating Heat Pipe Coupled with Phase Change Materials

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2022
3D pulsating heat pipes and phase change materials (PCMs) can be used for energy-efficient data centers. In this study an experimental bench of a 3D pulsating heat pipe/PCM module was built to study the heat transfer and energy saving characteristics of ...

Review of CFD modelling techniques for single‐phase and multiphase flow in static mixers

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approaches for static mixers, linking hydrodynamics to pressure drop, particle/droplet distributions, mixing metrics, and heat‐transfer performance to guide modelling choices and design decisions. Abstract Static mixers enable compact and low‐energy intensification.

The Influence of Gas-Dynamic Non-Stationarity of Air Flow on the Heat Transfer Coefficient in Round and Triangular Straight Pipes with Different Turbulence Intensities

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Unsteady gas-dynamic phenomena in pipelines of complex configuration are widespread in heat exchange and power equipment. Therefore, studying the heat transfer level of pulsating air flows in round and triangular pipes with different turbulence ...

Experimental methods in chemical engineering: Temperature‐programmed oxidation—TPO

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Temperature‐programmed oxidation (TPO) probes the oxidative capacity and redox properties of solid materials—catalysts, metal oxides, perovskites, and carbonaceous deposits. It identifies coke type, distribution, and reactivity. TPO instruments pass an oxidizing gas (diluted O2$$ {\mathrm{O}}_2 $$, air, or less commonly N2O$$ {\mathrm{N}}_2 ...

Expression, Purification, and Microscopy‐Based Assays for Engineered Recombinant Tyrosinated, Detyrosinated, and Δ2 Human Tubulin

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microtubules are noncovalent polymers assembled from α/β tubulin dimers. Their structure, dynamics and interaction with effectors are regulated through the expression of diverse tubulin isotypes and chemically diverse posttranslational modifications, also known as the “tubulin code.” Understanding the biophysical correlates between tubulin ...

Gas dynamics and heat transfer of stationary and pulsating air flows in round and triangular straight pipelines at different turbulence degrees

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Проблемы энергетики
RELEVANCE of the study is determined by the fact that non-stationary gas-dynamic phenomena in pipelines of complex configuration are widespread in heat exchange and power equipment.

An assessment of stress and production rate of sucker rod heat pipes in oil well pumping system

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The sucker rod pumping system is the preferred oil extraction technique. The concept about equipping the hollow vacuum space in solid sucker rods with heat pipe has been scrutinized in terms of stress and oil production evaluation. Abstract The implementation of the heat pipe concept in sucker rods for oil pumping systems negates the requirement for an
